Special is so relative- just look at how varied tastes in tea is:) Can you maybe be a little more specific? (in design as well as material if that matters)

There used to be this beautiful little vintage pot on Etsy that I wanted; sadly, I waited too long and it sold. It was of the classic little brown-glazed porcelain variety. You might have to be more specific in what you’re looking for.

Etsy?

It’s this online shop a friend introduced me to. It’s like a… less daunting version of ebay. It’s for people to sell their own hand-made items, or vintage items.

Oooh are there set prices or is it auction type?

I think there are auction settings as well, however I myself have only come across items of set prices.

I loooooooove Etsy!!! Cofftea -

http://www.etsy.com/

If you search under tea blend you can see individuals who make their own tea blends, and if you just search under tea, you will get hundreds of tea related everything – tea inspired art, hand embroidered tea towels, vintage tea sets, handmade tea cozies (it’s actually where I got my tea cozy), tea stationery etc etc etc

Find yourself an independent tea store – the best treasures are the obscure ones.

I agree- teaware is something I prefer to handle before buying it so I know exactly what I’m getting. Etsy looks great though!

BrookeM – do you like English style or Asian style? What’s your price range?

For a large selection to page through if you’re not sure: amazon.com – you can get a good idea of what’s out there for what price.

You are all very helpful. I am after the perfect teapot myself. The more I look though the more I am dazzled and become unsure of what I am after. Not sold on the Asian variety though. By that I mean the bright colored numbers that come up on e*ay when looking for teapots. I think they are from Tibet? Hadn’t even thought of Etsy and you can find cool stuff there. :)

I would love to know what you find when you find it. Teapots can be unique and interesting. My grandma had teapots she used that were so unique I loved them. My mom has them all now.

umm, i have 4? teapots
different ones at different times

pretty antique for when i feel fancy
cast iron for when it’s going to sit out (TJ MAXX special!)
and a regular everyday one for quick brews

i agree with the etsy statement, but also check teavana, homegoods, tjmaxx and other surprising places – so long as you aren’t looking for some of the more tea specific ones

i have found teapots in the craziest places, i think the key is having one teapot you like (so you aren’t in need) but isn’t ‘perfect’ then keeping your eyes open for ones that you fancy (your less likely to buy a poorly when you aren’t in need)

MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY

If you are in the Palm Beach, FL area on March 2, 2010 , you might want to check this out: a silent auction of hand-made contemporary teapots created by local and national artists.

If you like Chinese teapots, try http://www.cloudwalkerteas.com/category/8390096 . Most of the unglazed clay pots are from Yixing in China. Some of them are from renowned Chinese/Taiwanese artists and they also have a decent collection of gaiwans.
