Tea Drunk?

I agree, after having around 5 cups of green tea I watched Regular Show and couldn’t stop laughing. I do agree there is something different about tea than other caffeinated drinks. I enjoy the sensation of tea, and need to add some different varieties to my inventory.

I had My first Pu-erh today "ripened aged (2006) pu-erh " from Teavivre http://steepster.com/teas/teavivre/22572-ripened-aged-pu-erh-tea
After steeping 3 teaspoons in 212 F (8oz) water…(I was also eating oatmeal at the same time I was drinking this Pu-erh) I was on my 4th infusion and I started experiencing very strong nausea!! Is this the feeling of being tea drunk? were my brewing directions correct for this tea? At first I thought It was because of caffeine, but from what I read, Pu-erh’s have a Low caffeine content (10%)?

Awww, nausea certainly doesn’t fall under my definition of tea-drunk >: Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I have heard of some people having strange interactions with pu’er and food; some say it aids digestion while others say it upsets it. Hope you find what works for you.

I talked to my tea guys who agreed that eating a while before would have been better. I’ve heard of nausea when drinking tea on an empty stomach and you hadn’t digested food yet. Try a little when not eating and not on an empty stomach.

It was really interesting reading through each of your experiences. I have yet to experience this feeling and hope I do soon! It sounds interesting to say the least and I wonder how I would act tea drunk. When I drink alcohol I’m usually a very tired drunk and want to relax but also become quite talkative. Do you feel similar effect from being tea drunk as you do when you are drunk off of alcohol?

“Tea drunk” is the best feeling in the world, To me its more like “Tea High”
I get high from lots of strong Pu-erh and i loves it :)

Yes! This happens to me especially with certain regions of Puer (raw)

Completely agree with you. I’ve also experienced it from ‘back-to-back’ tea tasting, but mostly puerhs.

i loves it too Tommy the Toad! My feelings get pretty spectacularly awesome! Some tea’s produce the effect rather quickly…after 2 steepings. A big whoa in my head! Some an all over hey baby…good feeling.

I haven’t had a Pu-erh since that day..but I am planning on having some tomorrow :) I have been trying to learn how to use my newly purchased Gaiwan ;) when I am brewing tea with a gaiwan..How come it seems like I am using more tea with a gaiwan than with western brewing methods? Ie.. For Dragonwell tea I usually use 1 teaspoon http://www.teavana.com/tea-products/tea-accessories/tea-tools/p/teavana-perfect-tea-spoon for 8 Oz water (western style) but with a Gaiwan.. Verdant tea says to use 3 grams of leaf for a “medium gaiwan” (4 Oz?)(some websites say to use up to 5 grams) Why are the steeps so short in duration compared to western brewing? I usually have to boil my water in small amounts for such short steeps to keep it at the correct temperature!! Does anyone use this to heat/boil their water? http://steepster.com/teas/mandala-tea/28510-zojirushi-champagne-gold-3-liter-water-boiler-and-warmer

4oz is a small gaiwan. I tend to use a little less tea than recommended. Another thing that’s pretty old fashioned is the use of a tea cozy. I have a glass pot that I pour my boiling water in for use with a gaiwan when drinking puer’s especially…(after doing my rinse and beginning my first steep) and I cover the glass pot with my tea cozy (I have several from April Cornel online and two velvet ones from Uzbekistan that keep the water very hot thru 3-4 steepings).
Medium gaiwan would probably be 6-8oz and large 10-12oz.
I find that you can’t just double amounts in tea just like you can’t when using herbs and spices in cooking. You have to be a bit careful or you’ll overdo it. Noone told me that…it’s my personal experience.
Everything I know is from playing around and finding out what works for me. If I had no tea cozy, I’d use a tea towel. You can find a method that will work for you. The Verdant guys play with amounts of tea until they find the correct balance. If you use less to begin with and it’s not enough…add more.
We’re all learning as we go.

I am “Tea Drunk” Right now from drinking 2001 DingXing Aged Raw Pu-erh that I got in the mail just this morning.

I’ve been reading about Lao Ban Zhang, how it is almost ‘known’ for tea drunkenness. I was thinking of ordering some samples from Yunnan Sourcing, has anyone had any experience with this type of tea? I’m somewhat of a Sheng newbie, I’ve only had 2 or 3 in my life.
