Are you sweet or unsweet?
I sweeten iced tea I make at home, but can drink it unsweet as well. As for hot tea it really depends on the tea/time of day/my mood/any other variable you can think of. I drink Irish breakfast sweetened plus milk as well as Adagio’s Ceylon Sonata. Smokey teas like Lapsang Souchong and Adagios Yunnan Noir aren’t particularly good with anything in them. My greens, the couple oolongs I’ve tried, and ALL Pu-erhs I take neat (no additives). Also, with cheap blacks or with bad water I nearly always add sugar and maybe milk.
For me, it depends on the type of tea. I usually add regular sugar to my black teas. Never sweeten green tea. The only herbal tea I’ve ever added sugar to is Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride.
i will always try my tea first to see how much sugar i would like in it, but i do add sugar, to pretty much all of my blacks and flavored blacks. greens i drink plain (the two that i actually have) and herbals….altho i rarely drink them i have plain aswell. the only tea i add milk/cream to is adagio’s cinnamon black tea. with the milk/cream and sugar it tastes like a liquid cinnamon bun :)
I don’t usually sweeten my tea, but it depends on the tea.
One of my friends said something about sugar that I think about when it comes to adding sugar i stuff. “Sugar brings out notes of taste.” Which is true, if you don’t use to much of it. Then it just taste of sugar.
But yes, when I know there’s a note in something I can’t reach – I add sugar.
And sometimes it’s just perfect a tea, like almond tea :)
I sweeten chai, and occasionally my first morning cup, but otherwise I prefer my tea unmessed with. Does anyone ever add lemon to their tea?
I usually add just a touch of something sweet, usually stevia, but occasionally some sweetener or some honey. I almost always add milk to black teas or chais, unless I’ve just eaten meat – never to greens or whites. (I keep kosher, so I don’t mix meat and dairy.)
i try to start with no sugar and experiment with adding honey, greman rock sugar, white sugar to see how it changes the flavor – some teas do taste good / better with sweet other don’t
As soon there is milk in the tea there must be a bit of sugar too.
I use white caster sugar…don’t have the patience to wait for the “rock” crystals to dissolve…
I hate honey in tea as it changes the flavor of the brew. Could not name you any tea that gets flattered by adding it. Not even Chai.
“Love and scandal are the best sweeteners of tea.” Henry Fielding.
I add honey to just about any tea I drink. Creamed, basic cheapy stuff; I don’t own any tea-specific honeys, and creamed is just easier to scoop.
I’m more strict with my milk, though. I mostly only have it in chai, and breakfasty brews in the morning.
While I don’t sweeten, I’m w/ you on adding milk. I’m not a black tea fan so chais are the only thing I’ll add milk to. And I don’t even do that all the time. Sometimes I just want a spicy tea w/o the milky texture.
I can’t help but sweeten. My great grandmother was my single tea influence, and she always put out the very tiny teacups, saucers, doilies, tea cookies, and a little tub of creamed honey.
Most teas to me just don’t seem ‘right’ with milk. It would make it too… heavy? Or creamy/rich. I say rich because my digestive system has never much enjoyed milk anyways.
