Depending upon the tea, I like to mix it up. Sometimes I use sugar, splenda, blue agave syrup, molasses, maple syrup, or honey. As for dairy additions, I’ll use light cream or evaporated milk. There are some teas that I prefer completely plain, such as green teas; in other cases such as black teas, I will add a sweetener and/or dairy. It all just depends! :-)

Does tequila count for agave? Not that I ever do that of course…

Never tried tequila in tea, but definitely have used whiskey in tea! Hot toddy FTW :-) The blue agave syrup that I use is akin to this stuff: http://www.blueagavesyrup.com/

I never add any sweeteners to my teas…. unless it’s chai. I add a little milk to cut some of the harsh spices in chai. Plus, that is how it is traditionally drank, anyway. :-P

It’s also traditionally drank w/ sweetener, too (or so I’ve been told here, I wouldn’t know from my own knowledge)… but I skip that. Although I would like to track down Indian sugar some day though. Do you always add milk to your chai? I can go either way.

Definitely depends on the tea, for me…I almost always sweeten blacks, unless they are amazingly good (like “Dawn”). I only add milk to chai and English Breakfast, and very rarely a flavored black. I don’t think I’ve ever sweetened a white tea, and I rarely sweeten greens.

I personally find I need something with a natural sweetner. All too often, I practically pour a diabetic amount of sugar in tea when its too “plain” for me. For example, common tea (i.e. Lipton tea, generic black tea) has no real dynamic taste to it so I sweeten it with sugar more than I do with things like peach tea where there is even just a slight sweet taste upon drinking unsweetened.

Well yeah. That would be the easiest solution, wouldnt it?

Sadly, my budget is not really been the best for getting anything too pricey (I stay away from places like Trader Joes for this reason). I would just “not drink tea at all” but it seems thats what I crave every morning.

Actually, there are great loose leafs out there at great prices… you just need to look. Unfortunately Steepster select isn’t active anymore. That was a great way to save money on tea related purchases. Other ideas: retailmenot.com, amazon.com, Swagbucks.com has a few tea companies you can earn swagbucks on purchases w/, then use the swagbucks for things like amazon gift cards, subscribe to tea company’s newsletters- most have coupons frequently as well as frequent customer reward programs. Also remember a high quality tea can be steeped multiple times saving you money.

Greens and oolongs I always drink straight. I prefer my chai teas with milk. With some black teas (usually Indian or Sri Lankan teas like assams, ceylons, darjeelings), it can go either way depending on my mood — I used to only drink black tea straight, but then I started having tea time with my British professor so I’ve developed a taste for milk tea. I always drink Chinese black teas straight though. Also, I rarely add sugar to my tea – only with Persian cardamom tea occasionally. Which is why I hide my lighter and candles in my sugar bowl. XP

I don’t like to sweeten my tea at all. I will only sometimes add some sugar/sweetener to black tea.. but for the most part, I try to avoid it.

When I order tea, I always take it straight up or straight up on the rocks…which brings a smile from the tea barrista most of the time :) I’m a non-sweetener kind of girl at home, too. I want to taste the tea in my tea, not the sugar.

I grew up drinking my tea with milk and sugar, but since I’ve switched to using unsweetened almond milk in my black teas I don’t feel the need to add any sweetener. I always drink greens and oolongs “neat.”

Depends on the tea and my mood. I like to sweeten strong or bitter black teas (such as PG Tips) and some chais and some rooibos blends. I usually use brown sugar or agave. Sometimes I’ll use honey. Other teas I usually drink plain.
