Are you sweet or unsweet?
I drink mostly blacks and flavoured blacks and I almost always add milk and sugar (German rock sugar at work, white sugar at home) to black teas. Herbal teas are more hit and miss, I may or may not add sugar depending on my mood, but never milk to an herbal tea unless the tea company it comes from specifically mentions to use it.
And I don’t care that this isn’t the ‘natural’ way to drink it or that I’m not being a purist or that I’m getting less health benefits or whatever. I drink tea for the taste and I don’t really get enough calories as it is so I’m not worried about it.
Nothing wrong with it. To each their own!
About 99% of the time I don’t put anything in my tea. Occassionaly I like to add a bit of milk and/or honey to certain black teas and chai’s.
Most of the time I drink tea straight, with the exception of chai, which I usually add milk to. The only other exceptions I can think of are teas that come with sugar bits in them. Other than that, I’m pretty much a “purist”. I find most teas I drink don’t need any sugar or milk anyway.
I add milk and sugar to chai and most black teas, particularly those that are blended. Sometimes I add lemon to my rooibos. I never add anything to greens, oolongs, whites, and certain black teas such as lapsang souchong.
I just discovered palm sugar, and it’s quickly become my favourite sweetener for the few teas I drink sweet
For me: Desert teas get .5 tsp per 8 oz, fruit teas get .25 tsp per 8 oz, and mint teas get sugar based on flavor-some get none, others get up to .5 tsp.
Sweetening unflavored tea is for poor quality unflavored tea to cover said poor quality related bitterness and I don’t tend to buy the junk anymore.
Yes I usually sweeten hot tea mildly. I think it enhances the flavor of the spices or tea usually. I don’t add much though.
For iced tea, I only use regular black for sweet tea gallons, and I add sugar for that. I’m a southerner after all :p I find iced tea unsweetened to be very bitter/astringent
Though I don’t drink much of them, I take greens and whites straight. Blacks I put in golden sugar and milk. It’s not so much that I need it though, I think it’s more habit, since that’s what I’ve always done. I don’t put in enough sugar to make the tea taste sweet though, just a touch to bring out the flavor more. Kind of like adding salt to some foods when cooking. I DETEST white sugar or honey in my teas though, as I find it alters the flavor, which I don’t want. D:
Not sure what I do with oolongs, but I’ll find out once that certain package arrives in the mail ;)
I’ll probably get kicked off the board for saying this but I add two Splenda packets to every 8-oz. cup of tea I drink. I have a sweet tooth, it keeps me from drinking my calories, and yes, I can still taste the tea.
Just be careful with the Splenda, ’cause they are actually 4 calories per packet. It is still less then regular sugar, of course.
