I can't believe that happened!
Ok, my latest discovery. I told mom we were really low on fat free milk for my chais so she looked and said there was almost a full one in there. Then… it dawned on me… for the past couple days (2, 3, who knows) I’ve been using the OLD milk… I mean seriously. The milk w/ the “sell by” date of 3/03 never got chucked. We have bad luck w/ milk turning even before the sell by date so don’t ask me how it managed to not taste or look funky or how I managed to not get sick…
Picked up my favorite mug two days ago and the handle broke off cleanly in my hand. No bumping, no dropping, nothing that would indicate that it was about to happen. Fortunately there was nothing in it yet…
I have broken more french presses than I can remember. Sometimes it seems like they just decide to end it all and JUMP off of the counter.
But in terms of injuries!
Once I was filling a french press with a BUNN water dispenser. A customer came in the door behind me and I turned around to say hi and, in the process, pushed my hand under the steady stream of 200F water. It hurt a lot but I was able to MacGuyver a rooibos compress to hold on my hand. The burn was pretty much gone the next day, but the rooibos dyed my hand orange!
Dead of summer- making tea in shorts. Spilled water on my leg. Scar is still there.
Oh ouch! Something similar happened to me this winter: I was sitting on the couch with a freshly made mug of black tea. My dog barked very loudly and I spilled the tea. It soaked through my pants and burned me. Luckily it was only a 1st degree, so no scar.
I did the same thing in math class, but it was in the middle of a lecture so I couldn’t make any more noise than a whimper and I had to wait until the end of class to run out!
I ordered from Samovar 4 tins and a small teapot. My first package was stolen, and then returned without the teapot. Samovar offered to send a new order with all the stuff, but I let them know that I got my tins back and not the teapot because I thought it was the right thing to do (although now that I’m looking at the tins and how small they are, I’m wondering if I should have just kept my mouth shut, lol). Anyway, they sent me a new teapot, and it was stolen as well! WTF??? I want to cry.
Edit: Wait! I found the new teapot! It was in my mail box, because they chose USPS this time, not UPS. Success!
I use a teasink when making tea usually. As such, it has a drain which is connected to a plastic tube which carries waste water and tea out of the sink and into an old wine jug on the floor. More than once I have forgotten to check if the tube is actually inserted into the wine jug and ended up with a great big tea soup mess on the floor to clean up.
Tonight, I caught my cat drinking out of my tea mug. For some reason he likes green tea, go figure. Anyway, I was working on the laundry so I made a mental note to dispose of the remaining tea after I was done. Well…I forgot to pour the rest of it down the sink until I had already drank out of the cat infused mug…ugh…
I was pointed towards this thread about a certain action that keeps on happening for me concerning tea. Hopefully you don’t mind me reviving this thread…
So, I’m a painter, and I work with oil paints (very toxic, as you know) and because I’m usually painting for hours at a crack I drink tons of tea to keep myself interested in the work. Well, on several occasions I’ve taken a full brush full of oil paint/turp mixture and dropped it into my teacup instead of swishing it in my turponoid/linseed oil jar. Ewww. I have to do an emergency ‘stop and wash the mug’ at that point because those chemicals are so incredibly toxic….
I know it’s bad to consume anything when you’re painting, but it’s a habit I just can’t shake. Maybe I’ll get myself a mug with a lid or something. :)
That has happened to me too… although I don’t work in oil paints very often, usually water paints and acrylics. But there have been times that I’ve dipped my paintbrush into my tea instead of my water to clean the brush.
Luckily I work in nontoxic watercolour. I also haven’t managed to grab the wrong mug, or dip my brush into the wrong one. Yet.
LiberTEAS, this happens to me all the time. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one. Best of luck AJ that you don’t get the curse of ruining a fabulous cup of tea with your watercolors.
A piece of clothing isn’t properly broken in without a tea stain in the most prominent spot possible.
