Oh, I do love book threads :)

Just to join in, I’m currently re-reading A Winter in Madrid for the second time. I love historial fiction and this is a good one. Tea and a good book, what could be better?

Now reading Red Hood’s Revenge third book in the princess series by the Jim C. Hines. I also posted some of my writing stuff on goodreads.com (I’m not sure if it’s visible to my friends but it’s there) stuff I wrote in high school so don’t expect much :D

You enjoy writing Helena?
Are you working on anything at the moment?

I enjoy writing but so far I don’t do very well with stories, the best stuff I’ve done so far is the high school stuff I posted on goodreads.com/Aedon2 99% was poems. I should take another crack at story writing though :D

Just finished Song of the Quarkbeast by Jasper Fforde (the second in his YA series, The Last Dragonslayer books) and am now reading Lunch in Paris. I really enjoyed Gold by Chris Cleave which I also read recently. I’ve been on a string of quick, enjoyable reads and loving it!

Just read the whole true blood series in 2 weeks. Love that it was different then the show.

LOL!!! A few summers ago I read the entire true blood series, just like that. Someone had given me a box full of othem (I have book series trades going with a few people), & there was a point where I realized I was missing one book, & I frantically called every borders in town, because I couldn’t skip a book! I finally found it & had to drive across town to get it. I have enjoyed each new book as they come out, but I agree, the show being different is good.

Just finished Stephen King’s new Dark Tower book, The Wind Through the Keyhole.
Currently reading Against the Day by Thomas Pynchon, The Sickness unto Death by Soren Kierkegaard, and an assorted variety of textbooks :)

The beau bought me the firt three Dark Tower books 4 or 5 years ago for Christmas and I STILL haven’t got to them. I keep meaning to, but it’s been nearly a decade since I’ve read Stephen King and I remember him being a bit cumbersome. I do hear many good things about Dark Tower, though!

I found the end of the dark tower series disappointing. I won’t say what or why so that way you can hopefully enjoy the book :D

My favorite books were the Gunslinger and Wizard and Glass, but unlike a lot of people I really enjoyed the ending as well. It was pretty anticlimactic, but if felt “appropriate” I guess. :)
Definitely one my favorite book series

I just finished Flannery O’Connor’s Everything That Rises Must Converge. I think O’Connor is perfect to read in the summer. Now I have to pick something else to read. It gets impossible when I want to read everything on my shelves.

I forgot to update that I finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (it was a very good book), and am now reading Devil Said Bang by Richard Kadrey (local author, books not for the faint of heart or stomach).

Wasn’t it great? Very unique format and poetically written while still in a highly realistic first person voice.

I absolutely loved it. Definitely going to have to check out more of Junot Diaz’s books when I get the time!

Finished Empress Orchid by Anchee Min. Reading the sequel The Last Empress. Since its set in Qing dynasty China, there’s a lot of tea drinking going on but the author never specifies what tea it is. Once it was chrysanthemum tea but the rest of the time I can only guess. I imagine any tea brewed in a gaiwan would be perfect with these books. Maybe some puerh or white tea.

I love drinking chrysanthemum!
This sounds like an interesting series!

I gotta say, the second book was really disappointing. It seemed like the author was trying to rush through the history of the story while intermittently interjecting some personal stuff from the narrator. The second half of the first book had the same flaw to a lesser extent. I’d say just read the first book and forget about the second.

Chrysanthemum teas was one of the only teas I would drink as a kid. It was that and Hong Kong style milky tea.
