Now reading Silent Dances (second in the Starbridge series) by A.C. Crispin They are really good and I highly recommend them to SF fans :D

Helena thank you for that recommendation! I just looked at the Starbridge series @ Goodreads and ended up buying the first in the series for a penny (used book) on Amazon, since my library does not carry it. : )

I’d like to remind all my fellow Dresden Files fans that today is the release day for Cold Days! Are you guys reading it yet? I hope to dig into it tonight after class!

There’s a series I stopped halfway through. I’m not sure why I did, I may have to pick it back up.

Claire said 2012-11-27 15:36:50 -0500

I’ve enjoyed it, fun series and I think Butcher is good at structuring plots.

Invader Zim said 2012-11-27 15:42:56 -0500

I’ve only read the first four. How many are in the series now?

Small
Claire said 2012-11-27 15:58:30 -0500

He’s up to 14 now! If you decide to keep reading them, I think number 6 (Dead Beat) is one of his best.

Invader Zim said 2012-11-27 16:01:14 -0500

Oh wow that’s a lot! It’ll keep me busy and keep me from looking for other books to read for a while!

Claire said 2012-11-27 16:07:27 -0500

I also highly recommend the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne if you’re an urban fantasy fan. I really dig his books, and he’s a super nice down-to-earth person to boot.

I am an urban fantasy fan! I will have to check those books out now too! Thank you!

Love Dresden!

My boyfriend is reading Dresden Files! I refuse. Not because I think its going to be bad or anything, but because its on a Kindle. They’re called Kindles because they turn books and bookstores into kindling. I refuse to support ebook! One day an angry book lover might run around terrorizing kindlers with a giant magnet, and I will laugh as I turn the pages of my real book. :)

Claire said 2012-11-28 13:26:11 -0500

24% into Cold Days and I am reading it on kindle. ;) I used to hate ebooks but my partner gifted me one, and now I appreciate being able to carry around 100+ books at once, and a lot of the books I have to read for school are free as well. I do agree though that a solution needs to be found to support bookstores, indie bookstores in particular.

Shmiracles said 2012-11-28 13:40:08 -0500

i agree also. i love books on paper! i love art on paper! bookstores need a solution and to be supported.
but i also own a kindle and it has changed my life. seriously.
AND this is coming from a Printmaking and Book Arts major in college. i learned book binding and printing methods both modern and traditional. i learned paper making. i adore paper. and the printed word. and the feel and smell of a book, much like the feel and smell of tea, is very special.
(but i read more books on my kindle than i ever read before and for the first time ever i read multiple books at once. gladly i do still buy independent art books all the time. ie zines and graphic novels.)
ARG i didn’t wanna get this thread too far off topic SORRY!!
I LOVE READING! and i love all of your recommendations.

Shmiracles – I’m following you now just because you said you like zines. :D I haven’t been reading too many of those lately though!

Edited to add: oh, and the BBC Sherlock! I LOVE the BBC Sherlock!

I’m about 76% in now! It’s totally addictive, I’m trying to save the end for when I have a nice block of free time.

Love Dresden, Iron Druid and don’t leave out Monster Hunter International series. By Larry Correia. I’m about 25% through Cold Days. Didn’t like Ghost story that much, felt like it was a lead-in-to-my-next-book type story. But can’t wait to read more! Iron Druid rocks!

Just about done Remains of the Day by Ishiguro and soon to start Dance with Dragons. Finally! : )

PS – I finally got into Riffle books through a Forbes invite. If anyone else has it already, I’d love to follow you…or whatever they call it in the Riffle world.

i’m reading Sherlock fan fic and drinking Fire Ginseng Tea from a local establishment.

Small
Shmiracles said 2012-11-27 22:29:51 -0500

today’s fanfic spoke briefly about the large selection of tea John keeps in the cupboard, so Sherlock doesn’t get bored.

Serenity said 2012-11-27 15:34:14 -0500

Shmiracles: is it new PBS Sherlock fanfic or old skool or…? Sounds like a delicious combination!

Shmiracles said 2012-11-27 15:43:37 -0500

OK, I missed the new Sherlock wagon (need to watch!) but I’m enjoying the old Sherlock in the Mary Russell series by Laurie King. Good stuff, at least the first several books of the series.

Reading John Dies at the End right now. I wanted to read it before the movie comes out in January. It’s really good so far. Very dark humor which I love :-)

Found this interesting article about the company: http://www.cleveland.com/taste/index.ssf/2010/02/mennonite_farmer_gets_ok_to_ma.html I have an aunt who lives near Dalton, so I may have her pick me up some :)

I really want to reread that (again…not sure how many times I’ve read it) before the movie comes out.

Small
Andrew said 2012-11-29 13:06:26 -0500

I am reading a few different books/comics.

Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling (not the type of book I normally read, and I am actually quite enjoying it because of that).
Batman Chronicles Vol. 3
May Day Murders by Scott Wittenburg.
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 2

I have been watching The X-Files lately and want to get into a book series that is similar (no not the X-Files books based off the show), anyone know of any? All I can find by searching for UFO books and whatnot are either single novels, and a bunch of romance stuff. Which I wouldn’t mind reading the single novels, but I would really like a series of books to read :)

Small
Uniquity said 2012-11-29 14:05:07 -0500

YAY THE X-FILES!!! I have all the seasons on DVD and love re-watching them. It might be about that time again. Unfortunately I can’t think of any books that I enjoyed specifically as an X-Files fan.
