Tea & Books - What are you reading?

Still reading Dance with Dragons, but the end is nearing…It took about 600 pages but it’s really interesting now too!

At long last, found some Alexander McCall Smith in my price range (u-s-e-d) and have started The Double Comfort Safari Club. What’s not to like about a chapter named “Teapots and Efficiency?”

Sipping Oolong Reading “Good Omens” by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Perhaps I can finish it this time around.

I’m readying “Shogun” by James Clavelle. All I want to drink is green tea because of all the mentions of cha.

this morning i finished Mishka Subaly’s The Long Run, it’s a kindle single.

and i started Shade it Black by Jessica Goodell
i’ve wanted to read this book ever since i saw the review in Rolling Stone so long ago, so it feels good to finally get around to it.

seriously, these are not really ‘fun’ books, so i will drink my tea sullenly as i read. all black tea. of course ;)

I’m reading a couple of books right now.

“Bowie’s Mine” by Elmer Kelton is my current “messenger bag” book, meaning it’s a paperback small enough to carry places so I usually only read it when I’m out of the house. It’s a western.

I started reading “The 10th Kingdom” a novelization of the mini-series. I’m into it but then I went to the library and library books get priority over books I own.

“The Gates of Twilight” by Paula Volsky. Volsky writes fantasy inspired by historical events, not quite alternate history. It’s quite good, though very dark, I’m about halfway through.

And the audiobook in my CD player is “Wards of Fairy” by Terry Brooks, the first book in the Dark Legacy of Shannara series. It’s finally starting to get good but I only have 2 discs left.

its starting to dawn on me that many tea lovers got a general amount off intresses off other things like reading, gaming and cooking! :) I’m reading the second book off game off thrones right now :) usually when i’m in bed with my last cup off the day

Reading Lafcadio Hearn’s In Ghostly Japan, a series of essays, musings and stories related to the supernatural (or just ghostly) in Japan. Nothing on tea in it, but there was a nice bit on incense and incense parties! Which were held around the same time the tea ceremony hit its peak in Japan, I believe. It’s extremely interesting so far.

I finally finished Dance with Dragons last weekend – that one was a slog for me. I feel like Martin is just writing longer and longer stories for the heck of it, with no real plot happening. Also, I never believe that anyone is dead and almost nothing surprises me with him anymore so I’m a little put out. It started out interesting enough, but he really needs to buckle down on his editing. [/rant]

Now most of the way through The Postmistress which is strange and interesting. It’s not holding my attention really well but it does have a few good small stories in it that I am interested to see how they turn out.

Over Christmas I hope to read The Fry Chronicles (Stephen Fry) and whatever is lying around my mother’s house. I’m almost on vacation!! : )

Is anybody as crazy as I am about “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society?” Devoured it for a second time and it was all I could do to keep from starting on Page 1 again when I finished.

Now, picking up on the wonderfully British Maisie Dobbs series with “A Lesson In Secrets.” Maisie is highly, highly recommended.
