I am reading The Martian right now. Want to finish it before the movie comes out this month. Really loving it so far I’m curious to see how it will translate to film.

Just finished it! Loved it. Can’t wait for the film.

I just downloaded the new Millennium book, Girl in the Spider’s Web. Going to go to bed with it, see if the new author lives up to Stieg Larsson.

I’m in the middle of my annual Fforde re-read and though tea is infrequent (as he points out in the Thursday Next books, it’s impossible to get a decent cuppa in the book world) I am having a great time.

Nearly done The Fourth Bear, and up next will be First Among Sequels. I also have to squeeze in The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion for book club, and Nick Offerman’s How to Paddle a Canoe which is an inter-library loan.

Ooh, good choice. I must go back read my Fforde books. I wish he would get on and write the next book to go with Shades of Grey, or that someone would point me to where it is on sale though.

Ooo, just discovered Jasper Fforde earlier this year! Loved all of the Thursday Next books. And I just read The Rosie Project and quite enjoyed that one as well.

Theoretically, the “next” Shades of Grey (which is actually a prequel) will be released next year. It was supposed to be this year, but the universe hates me. It is my favourite of his books, and I eagerly look forward to reading more.

Apparently it sold very badly at first but has since become a bit of a “cult” book (possibly thanks to EL James!! :D) and is more popular. Basically, I just need him to write ALL the time.

And now I have yet another author added to my tbr pile lol

Assuming that Cheshire in your name refers to Chesh the cat, you should be VERY happy with Fforde! :)

Vanyahiril said

Yes! I need to add some Fforde books to my pile!

Next year for the next Shades of Grey book? That’s not soon enough and is enough to make me see red, although mainly in the vermilion tone. :) I’ll look forward to it. I still need to read The Fourth Bear, so perhaps I should make time for that while waiting.

Found a Fforde book at a used bookstore this weekend I was so excited at that find :-)

Yay! I am actually reading First Among Sequels at the moment, and love finding the little notes I left myself to unite the various stories. Also Doctor Who talk that I forgot about – or maybe I wasn’t yet a Whovian the last time I re-read it, but I doubt it!

Thanks to “Sherlock”, I’ve decided to re-read the entire Sherlock Holmes canon. Finished the first three and am just starting “Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes”.

I’ve read the first one, and loved it. Don’t know why I haven’t read more!

You should definitely check them out! The writing can be a bit sappy Victorian at times, but the characters are fabulous and the mysteries are great.

These days I read so much for grad school that I hardly read for pleasure unless it is a holiday, but lately I have picked up Charlie Chaplin’s autobiography to put me to bed (and it’s quite good!).

Going between “The Drafter” by Kim Harrison, “The Calling” by Louise G White, and an Old Man Logan comic book (graphic novel?). And my almost 2 year old keeps bringing “Fahrenheit 451”. Gorgeous language in that one. It rolls right off the tongue.

I finished the Fourth Bear, the Rosie Project, and am now starting Nick Offerman’s Paddle Your Own Canoe as it is due back on the 23rd. Then it is back to the Fforde re-read with First Among Sequels. Then my very favourite, Shades of Grey. YAY!

The Eyre Affair was the best book I read the year I read it, but I haven’t gotten around to the others yet! Or anything else by Fforde which is a shame.

Uniquity said

I gushed about Fforde up-thread so I’ll try not to do it again, but he is my favourite living author. Possibly favourite ever, it’s harder to say. I love The Eyre Affair but I think he only got better as the universe becomes more developed. If you ever find a hole in your TBR, pop some more Fforde in there!

BETTER after The Eyre Affair! Nice. The Fforde books are waiting on the shelves but so is so. many. others. :D I’ll get to them sooner now though!
