I am now reading Stolen by Kelley Armstrong :D I will read some Sherlock after I finish the Otherworld series :D
Oh that is an excellent series. I’m waiting for the library to semd me the final book.
I’ve read most of the series before, I’m re-reading it so I remember all the stuff before reading the final book :D
Helena – have you read the two series by Laurell K Hamilton? They’ve gotten smuttier as she’s gone on with the books but they’re enjoyable. one follows vampires/wearwolves etc the other is the fae
I haven’t read Laurell K Hamilton because I heard that she went from good to smutty. I may try her sometime though :D
I am reading Good Omens by Terry Pratchett with some Ginseng Oolong
Just finished Storm of Swords (third Ice and Fire book) and am now reading a novel about Africville called Big Town.
I just finished this as well. Now I am starting on A Dance with Dragons. Swords was my least favorite in the series. Hoping dragons is less tedious.
: ( I wish you had enjoyed it more! I actually found it the most captivating one so far – and the first to actually surprise me with what happened. Looking forward to reading Feast of Crows when the beau is done with it. We had been holding out to get Dance with Dragons in paperback, but the release date got pushed back so we’ll probably get it from the library.
Finished a few Sherlock stories. Am now reading The Things They Carried. Haven’t read this classic before. Pretty good so far!
This thread makes me want to keep a reading log. How many books do I go through in a year? I go through quite a few. Reading is my preferred form of entertainment. :)
I started keeping one after the bookstore I worked for closed a few years ago. I really enjoy looking back at what I’ve read. Plus, sometimes I forget. : )
I have a log on my kobo touch, it’s called reading stats and as of right now I have read 77books, spent 547.3 hours reading and have read 24% of my kobo library :D
Wow, I probably don’t want to know the hours spent reading. : ) Very neat though! Is that for the lifetime of the reader or can you set a start point?
It’s starts the moment you pick up your kobo and start reading. You can sync it with your computer, smartphone, ipad etc… which is nice if you leave your kobo at home. There is also a facebook app where you can see on your timeline how much you read and what you’ve recently read. :D They also have a lot of deals and free books. I believe kobo is Canadian… I know all the stuff on the site is available to Canadians :D
Goodreads is an awesome site for keeping track of what you read!
the kobo website uses goodreads.com to show reviews of the books. I like that because goodreads is unbiased so I can get a better idea of what I’ll like :D
I just finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It was incredible! I couldn’t put it down! The first 30 pages or so were a bit slow but once I got into it, I just sat and read for hours. Highly recommended!!
Agreed – That was a really fun read, though I probably missed half the references because I was only born in the late 80s.
I’m reading A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn. Today, I read a chapter over a nice cup of rooibos.
The book makes me ever more determined to spread the gospel of direct trade model tea and coffee, where producer and consumer and everyone in between are rewarded equitably for their effort. To the floods with class stratification, and the direct trade model seems to be a way out of it.
Well I’ve got a 4 hour drive coming up in a couple of days, so I’ll be listening to Naomi Novik’s Throne of Jade. I’ve read it before but thought I’d go through the series again! Apparently Peter Jackson got rights to the movie for the first book (His Majesty’s Dragon).
I really like Naomi Novik and she has quite a few books out now in that series :D It’s one series I can re-read :D
Totally! I think I got to Victory of Eagles, but it was so long ago I don’t really remember them.
there’s seven books in the series right now and I’ve read them all… umm.. more times than I’m admitting to. Probably as much as Patricia Briggs. Naomi Novik goes great with tea :D

I liked her books a lot at 1st but havn’t been able to really get into Armstrong’s later books. The last one I really enjoyed was No Humans Involved. Did read Waking The Witch and kind of enjoyed it, but it plodded for me in several places.Probably will get thru the other books eventually.
Lately been reading YA Fantasy, (I’m in my 30’s) I kind of prefer that type these days because it’s less complicated then alot of adult fantasy. Ordered 2 books: book 2 in the Shadow Grail series by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill and the 2nd set of books republished into 3-in-1 books by Cate Tiernan, her Sweep series. And impatiently waiting for Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan to come out. LOL
I would like to read more classics, though it is difficult to remind myself of that when I go to the bookstore. (Used books or stores like B&N. I miss Borders! Waaaahhh!!! lol. Joking about the whining.)
Last time I was at this one used book store I spotted a series that was based on the Charecters from a Jane Austen novel, though for the life of me cannot remember what, and I just tried googling it, but gah….I am just going to go back to that store and hopefully they still have it.
For the most part I am into reading Urban Fantasy and some Scifi. I also enjoy History, Mythology, Theology…..and of course with a cup of tea!
Little (grrl) lost was really good. I still have the hardcover. Charles de Lint is one of my favourite Canadian authors :D I also liked a lot of his Newford stuff. If you like Urban Fantasy I like to recommend Patricia Briggs’ Moon Called, Finder by Emma Bull, Elsewhere by Will Shetterly. Finder and Elsewhere could be classified as YA or adult depending on where you go… I liked the lightning thief (book not movie) Mercedes Lackey Bedlam’s Bard series rocks. I haven’t read the shadow grail series as I’m still addicted to her Valdemar series, elemental masters and 500 kingdoms.
Elsewhere, Nevernever and Finder all take place in the same world. It’s the world of Bordertown. Bordertown is a town that borders the fairyland when it came back so magic and tech don’t always work… or work in weird ways. Welcome To Bordertown is a bunch of short stories/poems and such by various authors including Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Holly Black, Terri Windling… I forget who else but it’s good :D
