Oh, yixing teapots, how I desire to have a separate one of you for each type of tea I drink regularly. How I would love to know you are being seasoned and have a cute little collection of different appearances.
However, I’ve run out of space on my tea counter already.
None, I keep shopping for them then not buying because of the space issue, lol.
Let me know if you find anything too good to be true!
I got mine from mandala today and seasoned it. Hope to use it tomorrow.
They are SO tiny though – possibly you could find room for just one! :)
Get a larger tea cabinet. When it comes to tea and the things we love about tea … the answer is always more, not less. :)
I just ordered the Akimbo model from Mandala!
I love that model! Congrats!!! :)
Thanks! There were some others on other sites that I really liked, but the Akimbo was cute and well priced.
We’re downloading backups of all our DVDs so that we can eventually be all-digital so that cleared out one of the DVD bookshelves and so I’ve reorganized my tea stash into there… it gave me more room for teaware on top of the wine fridge (where everything had been stuffed and piled lol).
Woot! See that is what I do – if I run out of room in one place I move something else and look at it this way – your getting cleaning done in the process! :)
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I hope to be carrying Yixing pots by end of July but only in limited quanities. :)
Yes, I can’t wait. I have some VERY unique items coming in and some more traditional pieces. Among a few other surprises. :)
What price ranges will they be in? Oh also will they be authentic yixing? Thanks Rachel.
Price range will vary based on piece of course but I think very reasonable. As for authentic… Absolutely. :) Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Awesome – thank you.
You’re welcome :)
traditionally I think they are used for oolongs and pu-erhs, so unless you have many different types of those teas I don’t know why you would need so many?
Because some people like a pot just for one flavor / brand / type etc.
I don’t intend to get that serious though.
I have a tetsubin that I have been using for a month now but I am afraid of flavor mixing. I just ordered a yixing. My delimma is how to separate which teas to which pot. Spicy chai, sweet fruity, plain tea? Which pot is best for which? Maybe I need three pots? And should I get another yixing or another tetsubin? Help!
I do not know much about the tetsubin I thought that was for pouring hot water into yixing. I would use your current yixing for your favorite kind of tea whatever that is and get others for the other types. Yixing absorbs flavor, as far as I knew testubin does not but now I am going to go research that.
Edited: Well I guess they too absorb flavor although I have my doubts they do so as well as clay. My source – first one that I found when I used google.
I have not heard that the tetsubin was for water going to the yixing. I guess more research is in order.
I feel I should separate the light fruity teas from the chais and such. I know I can smell the chai on the basket even after rinsing it. I feel some if the flavor would have to bleed into the next few cups at least.
See my edit above :)
I would separate for sure!
