Since chai has it’s own category, please make matcha a separate category as well- or better yet a general “stone ground” category as there are stone ground white, oolong, and black teas as well. Separate pouchong and amber pu erh (along w/ shu and sheng) categories would be nice as well.

Isn’t chai just black tea brewed with spices? Why would that have its own category, versus any other black tea blended with other components?

Also, isn’t it easier to just classify the stone-ground teas you’re talking about under what the type of tea they are is? White, oolong, black, etc.

I feel like there could be a million categories for these teas….why not just keep it simple and complete? Amber pu erh is a pu erh. Pouchong is kind of difficult, but most people classify it as an oolong. I’m not sure if there’s a category for it already, but maybe we should have one for yellow tea.

I always mark both chai and the base when entering a chai. much like I do when adding a true tea and herbal or fruit blend. I use the chai category to mean “blended with spices”. I’m not the only person who enters teas in the data base this way. That category is already there so I don’t see it leaving. I also want to seek out matchas (and other stone ground teas) by certain companies quickly. (I’d mark both “stone ground” and the tea type.) Yellow is already there:) Of my category suggestions I think the Shu and Sheng separate categories are the most important and valuable as they are VERY different cuppas. I do not currently prefer shu at all and would like an easier way to identify sheng in a search.

I would love a reset button in the tealog pop-up for the Rating and Steeping Parameters slide bars to set the values back to the default blank position.

Here are some things, apologies if they’ve already been stated. I don’t know if they’re technologically possible, but they would make things much easier.

First, the ability to see others of your logs easily while writing a new log without having to log into Steepster twice and move back and forth between windows. So if you want to know what you said about a particular tea that you want to compare something else to, you can pull that info up easily from your same log in. The same would be true about the logs already entered on the tea you’re reviewing, so that you can see them easily and enable easier agreement or disagreement with what others have said in the past.

Second, an ability to sort tea logs other than by reverse chronological order and popularity and to search in your logs (and others) to find a particular one by author and tea logged.

Third, the ability to see the names and ratings of all teas you’ve logged at a glance.

Thanks for considering.

Found what I wanted in No. 3 in the tea ratings feature (duh).

Can’t see where to search within one topic – if this doesn’t exist, it sure would be nice.

Annelise Pitt said 2010-04-20 10:13:30 -0400

Also could use a search of just topic headers.
(I’m much too busy and important (lol) to be having to scroll through oodles of posts irrelevant to my search)
Seriously, though, as more content happens the length of the search results will be overwhelming.
.. so … my “Cadillac” of searches would give the choices of global, topic headers only, and separate search within one topic.

Are photos on the list? Embedded in the messages would be wonderful, but a separate area would do.
Photos of the tea leaves and the tea??

Just the tea’s profile pic (if there is one).

I would definitely like to be able to embed images (and links!) in reviews.

I know that image hosting can be a big drain on a small social networking website (or a big one) — I’d love for Steepster to host images, but I know it’s probably not practical. As things stand, the semi-official Flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/steepster/) seems to be working well.

People do already post links in their reviews, but that’s at the descression of the author, not a feature of steepster.

Cait said 2010-04-20 14:31:55 -0400

I mean using markup tags for links, not just pasting the bare link in. All tags appear to be stripped out of our reviews and comments. (That’s pretty standard security, but I would love to see “img” and “a href” whitelisted someday!)

I would like to be able to find other users to whom I am connected to nowhere else. A search field for users by name/location/handle?

Not very intuitive. Indeed, other than your link, I have not found it, yet… :)

steepster>explore>connect
where explore is on the top black bar of the steepster site
and connect is on the bottom of the explore page.

I’m sure someone, somewhere has probably already said this… but it’s nearly 1am and there are 20 pages of replies so excuse my laziness!!!
It would be nice to see reviews/suggestions of good teawares. A good infuser or teapot… things that make a boring/less appealing tea drinking into something better. I know tea is going to taste nicer when infused better!

I think the “best teas” feature needs some work. Something like a minimum number of reviews before a tea can be considered. I mean seriously, 2 reviews and “Smokey Bacon” is on the front page?/?/?
Another minor nit…the ability to select the type of teas you want to see the “best of” is great, but its a royal pain to have it re-select and redraw for every one you uncheck. How about making it a select and submit item, so we can get mix and match our selections quickly, then submit them to the page for retrieval/redraw.

A chat window, to chat with other tea people who are online.

I apologize if this has been mentioned, but reading 20 pages is rather intimidating (i.e. I’m too lazy). But I would love to have an option within the Shopping List to mark the item as “To Be Sampled” or something of that sort.

I’m just now getting to the point of adding teas to my list that I’ll always want to have on hand, and so I thought it’d be really handy to be able to sort the Shopping List by what I’d still like to sample, and what are becoming staples for myself that aren’t currently in my cupboard. I also thought that it’d be handy for any friends or relatives whom I direct to this site to get gift ideas for little ole moi. That way they could either put together a sampler present or buy me a nice big tin of a tea that I’m needing.

The “request a sample” button has been mentioned several times:)

Oh, this would go very nicely with a feature I’ve been hoping for for a while, which would be the ability to mark amounts owned in the cupboard. Amounts wanted on the shopping list would be the logical companion! :)
