Love the fact that you can automatically post a link to your review on Twitter, but it would be great to have a chance to edit the message before it’s published as well. That way, I can add tasting notes, or just make sure the tweet matches my usual style. (@CoryOBrien)

On the consumer side, I love to buy teas and blend them creatively once I get them home. Is there a feature where I could post on my tea log and select the teas that I blend and provide a tasting note about them in case others might be interested? Would love to see the combinations that others create too!

A Tea Events feature would be great too, a place where we could see local tea events in our area, and rate them maybe in case they are recurring events? Also what about a place to list or rate local tea houses or places people can get together to have tea?

We’re looking into it.

Make time and temp visability the default with the option of deleting it instead of vice versa. For people that drink a lot of green tea it’s a pain to have to move the temp meter just to get it to show up since it’s already set at 180, a very common steeping temp for greens. Also, instead of having time and temp on a slider, please change it to a blank field format. I had to set the steeping time for a 2nd infusion green tea at 45 seconds instead of the 40 I actually steeped it for.

For people who rarely pay attention to that sort of thing at all, it would be a pain to uncheck it every single time.

Maybe making it a user preference?

Angrboda said 2009-11-20 17:25:17 -0500

Wait, you mean as a default for that particular tea for each individual user like the way our individual ratings work? Oh yes, that could be a nice touch.

I thought you meant a global default for everything and everybody, which I just couldn’t see how would be practical at all. Maybe I ought to consider bedtime soon.

takgoti said 2009-11-20 17:48:08 -0500

@Angrboda I’m understanding what she said the same way you did initially. Yours makes more sense to me. That could be pretty cool, though I tend to jump around with my steep times and temperatures.

Sometimes I forget to log time and temperature and edit later. The only reason I realize it is because there’s nothing there. I think that your idea of making it be some kind of user setting would be the way to go. I know I’d prefer that to having a lot of default 180’s floating around because we all forgot to delete it.

But in the grand scheme of things, I personally don’t find it any trouble at all to move the slider back and forth a couple of notches.

@Angrboda, I did mean a global default. For green tea drinkers, having to move the marker back and forth even though it’s already set at 180 is just as much of a pain in the butt than you having to unclick it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not invalidating your opinion- either way is a pain for different people.

I’m not so lazy that I can’t move the slider. I like not having a default, because everyone’s drinking different teas at different temperatures. It takes two seconds at most, so I don’t see why this is really an issue.

Angrboda said 2009-11-21 14:56:10 -0500

I have to agree with Teaplz on this. Unless the majority of all teas logged by all users are green, a non-optional default 180F temperature setting seems more a way to inconvenience the many for the benefit of the few.

I understand your concern, but we also have to think of the people who are not submitting that info. For people that are noting temp, most likely the temp they use won’t already be selected (so you’d have to move the slider anyways), and even if it is you still care enough to provide that info so you probably will take the time to move it anyways. The problem with automatically including it is if people don’t want to submit that, its more likely that they would add a tasting note without noticing that the temp is already picked, so you’d end up with incorrect temps. I hope that makes sense.

Then maybe just have them as blank fields instead of a slider. This way we can enter the EXACT time and temp instead of rounding and if they’re left blank they just don’t show up.

How about boxes to check in the tasting notes for additions to tea: milk, soy, sugar, artificial sweetener, stevia… and some people seem really interested in trying salt and butter so maybe add those too? How about boxes to enter how much leaf (by both weight and measure) and water is used? How about a box to enter which infusion it is?

I was just searching this thread to see if this had been suggested. I strongly second this! I think drop-downs for additives would be really helpful. If I know that this tea gets really high marks, but the people rating always drink it with milk, and I never do – that would be really helpful.

We already have some features planned that will help incorporate exactly these things. Thanks for the suggestion.

I agree , an “additions” checkbox would be very helpful !

This may be a feature already but I can’t seem to find links to the teas on the seller’s websites. If this feature is not available then I think it would be a good addition.

I’ve seen it, but only with certain brands. I know Adagio is one of them. I want to say Rishi is, too? It’ll show up in next to the tea if you have any on your shopping list, but also on the side bar if you’re looking at the tea’s page.

Yes, just confirmed Adagio has linkage. [There are 304 Adagio teas?! What the what?] I’m going to assume that this is because some of our tea brands are mislabeled and need to be meshed and whatnot, but I agree that it would be nice to see that on some of the other brands.

Jillian said 2009-11-21 01:24:43 -0500

I second (third?) that. I know some of the bigger name brands like Teavana and Adagio have links here but no one else does, even when their websites are easily located on Google (so it’s not as if all these other companies don’t have a webpage or that it’s hard to find). I think it would be great publicity for many of the smaller tea companies in particular.

We definitely agree with this and try to add as many as possible. Links offsite to the tea company pages are managed by Steepster admins and it is difficult to keep up with the large number of teas added to Steepster on a daily basis. Also, we have arranged commission rates with some companies but don’t have the capacity to arrange that with everyone, which makes the process of adding new links rather slow. We will continue to add links offsite and it’s our goal to eventually have links on all of the tea pages that go to the place where you can buy that tea online. Sorry there aren’t more, we’ll keep doing our best. I hope this makes sense, let me know if you have any other questions. jason@steepster.com

Just skimming over these makes me really happy. Fortunately, we’ve already considered most of these and have many of them on our list of planned additions. However, there are also a number that are new and very clever. I’m excited to see where this forum goes and to see all the new requests as the site continues to evolve. I haven’t had a chance to go through a read them all (I have to get some work done) but I plan to go through and offer responses where appropriate. Keep the ideas coming!

Taken from mystarbucksidea.com… As ideas are considered, how about they get flagged as either “denied” (not gonna work), “launched” (idea is implimented), or “coming soon” (idea is in the process of being launched)? When an idea gets one of these tags, it is closed for further comments. To save room maybe the commentary could even be deleted leaving only the original idea to show that it has been requested and is or has been dealt w/…. Or better yet, They could all be removed from this thread which is for current requests and there could be different files (for lack of a better word)… one each for launched, denied, and coming soon… Basically Steepster update list.

Dunno if you haven’t seen this yet, but they’ve got a feedback section where some ideas are flagged like that. It’s obviously not forum-related but that might give you an idea of what they’ve got slated for release.

Thanks, I have. But it doesn’t seem to work. It doesn’t let me add feedback. I’ve tried a couple times. I’m just thinking that slotting it in the forum would make it easier to find and navigate. But that’s just me:)

Interesting idea. I’m not sure if this is the place for that, but I agree there could definitely be better organization and a better method for letting the users know the status of ideas outside of GetSatisfaction.
