Excessive "following"

I follow a lot and have a lot of followers because I am very active on the site. Some days I’ll review 5 teas, some I might not review any. I follow tea companies to watch for new teas and I follow people who are actively into teas so that I can read their reviews on teas and see if it piques my interest. If I hadn’t done this I wouldn’t have discovered half the tea companies I have and I wouldn’t have half the collection I have, nor would I have any idea of the sales and opportunities they have. I have also participated in a fair number of swaps and different exchanges that required personal msging which means you must follow. I do not respond to every post, but I am on the site at least twice a day. I’m here as much as fb.

I just like using the dashboard to see tasting notes – I’ll follow someone if they review regularily, or if they tend to have the same tastes as me or they drink the same kinds of tea. It always leads to me wanting more tea, but that’s okay. I don’t tend to “like” the posts or comment on them very frequently, but I definitely read them!

I try to follow all the HOT WOMEN on this site. It’s much easier than internet dating. Added bonus is that I know what tea’s keep them looking good. There should be a Steepster beauty contest. Keep it fierce, ladies!

Bonnie, the only thing sad to say is that there aren’t more people over 60 here to share with us young-in’s great stories and wonderful teas!

I set about collecting people in the beginning on Steepster…good writers, pu’erh lovers, people I could learn from.
Then I ‘followed’ people with a sense of humor. I chose new people (and students) that I liked sending samples to. After awhile, 10 ‘following’ turned into 30 which turned into 60 and so on. Besides, many people drift away and you can’t take them off your list even though they haven’t posted reviews in a long time. If I remove someone, I feel bad about it…but I don’t look at my list very often. There’s a Building Company in another State that is following me and I think that is weird. Why? Makes no sense to me!

They probably drink Builder’s Tea, then.

(excuse me while I collapse with giggles at my own hilariobvious joke!)

So you won’t find Building Company in your state following you strange at all?:)

No that would freak me out, like weird. You’re so funny!

I follow people who interest me, and who drink teas I would drink as well. Or those I see in the community. So many reasons to follow.
Unfortunately it’s creating a problem for me. I used to be able to read all the people on my list with ease. Now, there is so much posted that it takes far too much of my day heh!

I love tea.
Steepster is an ongoing conversation about Tea, & everyone here agrees on one thing: We love Tea!
I’ve learned a lot by reading what others have posted, discovered new teas, new tea companies, & made a few friends along the way.
Do I read every single post? Sometimes. Other times I skim through & read the posts that appeal to me, either because they are about a tea I find interesting, or because I like the writing style of the individual who is posting.
I only comment on somebody’s post if I have a questions, or something to contribute: knowledge, opinion, experience, or humor.
I also enjoy the discussions occasionally. Sometimes I paruse the list of tea companies, to check out companies I’m not familiar with.
I will follow anybody that follows me, or that I find interesting. I always read their bio, to see where they are & who they are. I’ll read through their tealog, to see what their into drinking.
I do not discriminate. We’re all tea lovers, & although I prefer unflavored whole leaf varieties myself, all teas are wonderful & there is room here for all preferences.
One of the first things I did when I joined steepster was to go to preferences & fix it so that I don’t get an email every single time somebody posts. That really helps.

I’m tempted to follow this thread-starter solely to piss him off. ;) I refrained; I have enough drama in my life without someone whining over being too interesting.

I am usually quiet when it comes to other peoples posts but that is only because I can never think of anything worth while to say and I don’t want to bother people. I enjoy reading what others put without them knowing that I am there, sort of like a ninja. Does a ninja dance.

In short if I like anyone’s post it means I have read it and like it but have nothing else to add to the conversation. :)
