Is it "bad" to mix different brands of tea?
I have more teas than I currently have containers for. I just got some samples and in two of them were gunpowder green teas. I have a canister with gunpowder in it and am wondering if its a bad idea to put them all together. I know from my jasmine experience that jasmine teas can taste different based on the manufacturer. What about gunpowder? Should I keep them separate?
Go for it! Some of my favorite discoveries came from a little tea-mixology.
I would brew a cup with two of them mixed just to see how it tastes. I’m sure it will be fine, though.
I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I do this often with my jasmine pearls when I get to the bottom of the package … I have maybe five or six pearls left and rather than throwing them out, I add them to my “jasmine pearl tin” and it is a combination of many different pearls… yes, each one is different, but, together, they make a nice jasmine tea.
I’ve done it. I would not do it if you really like one tea over the other. I have dumbed down a good tea by doing. Best advice, try them both alone first.
As long as they’re not flavored teas, you should be perfectly fine mixing them. But be careful with flavored teas. Depending on the different bases inside the flavorings, you could cause a chemical reaction that could be pretty intense. Not likely disastrous, but you never know…
(okay, I made all that up. mixing teas is fine. got your attention though!)
