Being Judged For Enjoying Tea?

The comment I get most often is why I go to all the time and fuss to set a tea tray, when you can just plop a tea bag in a mug. Makes no difference to me how you enjoy tea, I just like to brew mine in a pot and use a pretty tea cup and I’ve done it that way for years. If it makes you that uncomfortable to hold a tea cup, I’ll go get you a mug. They think I’m trying to be snooty.

Lol, bagged tea that our company gets is SO bad, that recently ppl started pouring it in the sink even though it’s free and started getting their own :)

Its them…not you plus they are missing out on the knowledge and insight of tea that you probably have. People need move beyond this petty bull**** if they want to connect on a human level, its small minded.

Anything that is unpopular will get “judgement”, I found. For instance, if you had an impressive wine collection, no one would think twice, but if you have as many loose tea varities – that is a problem.

My boyfriend is judged a LOT as a dude who drinks tea, especially from his beer drinking family. They’ve made fun of him for drinking tea and even go so far as to say, “I don’t like tea .. because I have testicles.” As if drinking tea was only a woman’s thing ;)

I’m new,but I’m seeing more and more examples of how counter culture our interest is.I can only assume this is a western outlook by what little I do know of the tea industry elsewhere on the globe. So If tea drinking is looked down upon in the states due to the fact that society has steered away from it since the Great Tea Party, then that further propells my belief that I want as little to do with what is mainstream as possible

I like to let my friends smell and taste my loose tea, and I’ve got a couple of them hooked. we, as steepsters, i think we should make an effort to conver coffee and soda drinkers to tea, cause tea is awesome and healthy and stuff.

Personally, I think there are much worse obsessions one can have besides tea- which is pretty harmless as long as you aren’t spending so much on tea that you can’t pay your bills.

I got this on a dating site recently:

No wonder you don’t date guys; you drink tea. Only lesbians drink tea.

LOL. I must go tell my Dad that apparently he’s a Lesbian because of his occasional tea drinking. Not to mention my Mom and Aunts.

it’s amazing what dumb things people will say/post. If lesbians drink tea it proves that they are either health concious or like tea. Personally I’m not a lesbian but I think the love of tea is universal :D

LOOOOOOLLLLLL. What a douche.

One time on a dating site, I had a guy write paragraphs upon paragraphs criticizing my profile. He criticized how I didn’t wear make up, I had short hair, etc. I thought, dude, you have way too much time on your hands.

I can’t believe someone would write paragraphs criticizing your profile… wait no, I can believe someone would be that much of a jerk. Luckily on a dating site I’m sure you can hit some sort of ignore button.

This was on Plenty of Fish. I was used to the usual “mass sexual emails” but this guy took the time to look at my profile and call me out on everything. He contacted ME first and I was clearly not his type, anyway. I guess he felt like he was helping “someone in need”. Oy. ….. And I bet he didn’t like tea either ;)

Oh my gosh, that is crazy. Losers. Lol

lots of people are narrow minded i just ignore their lack of intelligence. just remember in a battle of wits people like that are defenseless.

lol. some people have such an awful sense of entitlement, (and to go back to the topic.) or just don’t understand someone’s passion for something. And agreed, that as long as your getting what you need to done, (paying the bills, working hard, social life, non tea interests, etc.) it doesn’t matter if you have a passion for tea. Or anything else.

I’ve gotten emails like that, too. Sometimes the email is helpful though unsolicited. I generally try to take it in the spirit that it was given, unless they are deliberately trying to be a douche-bag.

We are always judged no matter what so I don’t care what others have to say about my love for tea. Tea makes me a happy person plus tea also has many health benefits, what’s not to love? As long as tea is not affecting your finance, relationships with others, etc then I feel tea is fine.

To be fair, to most people ‘new’ is synonym of ‘weird’ and even though that is a bad way to think in this world full of wonders; well the best you can do is explain to the people who at least are curious about it. And, just ignore the ones who are judgmental about it and prefer to remain ignorant.

The world is definitely full of cool things :D Tea is only the beginning :D

weirdness ia awesome, normal is boring and boring is not awesome.

My husband thinks it’s silly, or at least says it’s silly. He’s a coffee drinker. However, there has been more than one occasion that I have come home to the unmistakable scent of fresh brewed tea.

Ha! That’s great :)
