Disappointing Dragonwell purchase...

Okay so I recently purchased some dragonwell from Wegaman’s because I’ve been trying to get a taste for more green teas lately. I used to work at Teavana and despite the hate for them I actually enjoyed their dragonwell every once in a blue moon that I made a cup of it. I’m aware that the taste is supposed to be subtle and light (I use 1 tsp per 8oz) but with this Wegman’s loose dragonwell I’m not getting much flavor at all. My instinct would be to steep it at 175F for 1 minute, which I did and it just didn’t taste good at all. I know it should have a slightly earthy nutty flavor but I didn’t even sense that, I just tasted a sort of tannin tasting water. Any pointers or recommendations?

Try playing with temps and steep times is all I can think of that I would do.

This, and I might add, play with the dose a little too. Maybe more tea or less water will help?

I would say go about 2 teaspoons, since Dragonwell is a flatter leaf 1 tsp is not really much tea. See if you can measure out about 5 grams of tea.

Wegmans sells dragonwell? I never saw any of it in mine! I usually use a flat bamboo tea spoon, or if not, a large-ish pinch. And then I usually do 180deg for 1-2 min.
