Tea Crochet

So I have recently taught myself to crochet and I am absolutely loving it! One of my first projects was to make a cosy for my Aquaovo tea tumbler. I used yarn as close to the David’s Tea colour as I could find. I even made a cozy for the lid which attaches with two buttons on the sides. I figure that this will be a good pre-emptive strike against me breaking it too :P

Does anyone else in the community like to crochet? What projects have you created that enhance your tea-drinking experience?

That is so funny. I am just teaching myself to crochet right now too. I haven’t competed anything yet. Just trying to get the technique down. I’ve found it all so very relaxing. Glad to see I’m not the only one. :)

That’s so awesome!! I found that the best way for me to learn was to find some on-line videos of people crocheting. Once you learn the basis (which took me MONTHS to be able to do well) it is much less of a struggle to learn a new stitch. I am so excited for you! You definitely have to let me know what your first project is!!

I just started this about a week ago now and I too am learning from online videos. It’s amazing just how far technology has gotten us and just how accessible new skills are in this fashion. Right now I’ve decided to make a simple dish cloth my 5 year old daughter can use with her tea set. It’s so cute because she keeps pushing me to finish right away.

I taught myself how to crochet about 6 years ago or so. I have made a teapot cozy that is really cute pink and green.
I have made coasters (not directly tea related but it works) so I can have my tea mug downstairs or upstairs!
It is so neat to just be able to say that you made something yourself!

I agree! I love that you can make everything customized to your exact needs too. What are the chances of finding a cozy that fits your teaware exactly? Just make one yourself and you can choose the colours too!

Most of the time I crochet amigurumi, dishcloths, bags and I knit socks and shawls.

Those are really cute! I haven’t made a full amigurumi project just yet but I’m thinking that I’m almost ready to tackle one. I’m super excited to see your top secret project- I’ll make sure to keep checking your website for updates :)

I tried teaching it to myself some years ago, but I had to give up. It made my fingers ache something awful.

I crochet occasionally although I wouldn’t say I’m very good at it yet. I’m currently working on a little hideout for my shy kitten based on this pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crochet-snuggle-tubbie. I’m not using the prettiest yarn, but she won’t care as long as it is comfortable.

I wish I could learn by watching videos. Not for lack of trying….It is really difficult for me to transfer the information gained by watching the video and doing it myself. I did manage to figure out how to use those knitting looms that they sell at Jo-ann’s, (In the yarn section.) But not traditional knitting. :(
