Percolator as Tea Kettle?
Any one using a percolator – guts removed – to heat their water? Other than not using one that was previously used to make coffee, is there any reason this is a bad idea?
I have, while camping. I see no problems with it, even while I had to share it with coffee drinkers. Gave it a good rinse, didn’t find any residue coffee flavours.
Pretty much just a kettle that doesn’t whistle.
You’ll get clear bubbles instead of a whistle when it’s boiling. That sounds pretty cool actually.
Pretty much what I was thinking. I had it in my head percolators were a dime a dozen. After asking this, I started looking and was surprised at how expensive they are. My wife says it is because everyone wants drip for coffee. Makes sense. I will keep my eye open at thrift shops for a small one. I don’t really need it so if I stumble on it for cheap great, otherwise meh.
We used to make our morning coffee in a percolator. The top broke and we discovered the very same thing. I had always assumed people moved to drip coffee because they can walk away from it. If I find a small one I’ll scream and yell. :D Small mean like 4 cups?
