So I had one of these the other day at Starbucks (probably loaded up with syrup and stuff), how do I make this at home?

I use non dairy coffee creamer and milk, you can use soy milk, almond milk, any milk you want. I do about half and half on creamer and milk, so the glass is about 1/3 full of tea, then the rest with the milk and creamer mix. You can froth your milk if you want to with a hand held frother or any kind of frother. I used to do this but skip it anymore its just not necessary.

I usually do mine as an Earl Grey or some variation thereof.

I steep about 2tsp of tea for about 8oz of water and about 1tsp of German rock sugar. I usually use Adagio, so I do 2 minutes so it doesn’t get bitter.

While that’s steeping, I put a little less than a cup of milk into a measuring cup. I use skim, but you can do whatever you want. The latte mug I use is 16oz, so I aim for around 14-15oz total liquid. I microwave the milk for about 30 seconds, check the temp, and usually put it in for another 10-15. I don’t use a thermometer, but when it’s hot I pull it out. I have a stick frother, and I froth the milk until the tea’s done.

I empty the tea and the milk at the same time into the mug. It looks like a really wide teacup. Because I’m just using a measuring cup for the milk, the foam stays inside while the hot milk comes out. After the milk and the tea have mixed together, I pour the foam over on top.

And voila! Here’s one I made yesterday: http://alwaysdrinktea.tumblr.com/post/28782868360/earl-grey-bravo-with-caramel-and-hazelnut-i-dont

Looks so delicious! I want.

Thanks! It was :)

Awesome! I can’t wait to try this. :) That tumblr post was the other half of the reason I asked about it!

Ha, really? I feel so flattered!

Well, now I have to make a latte because this thread is inspiring!

I do the same strategy as Michelle, but I just brew my tea double strength in the bottom of the mug I’m going to use for the latte, usually using a tea sac (read: I’m lazy) and then froth the microwaved milk with a stick frother.

I really suggest investing in a frother like that – I found mine at a Second Cup for 7 bucks, but you can find them in Stokes, Thinkkitchen, any sort of kitchenware store for fairly cheap!
(Before I bought one, I just heated the milk in the microwave, then shook it up in a heatproof tupperware container with a lid. Made lots of froth!)

I usually stick to black teas for my lattes – as long as they are brewed nice and strong, the flavour is SO worth it!

Yeah, I got mine off Amazon for $5 or $6. I was on the World Market website and saw they had a 3-pack bundle for under $10. They’re dirt cheap, but great. And they make really good hot chocolate too!

Oh I make mine iced.

Tis the season for iced lattes, as they say ;)

Yup indeed!

What do you call an iced tea latte? It seems to me that it would be just iced tea and milk, or am I missing something?

Did you have their Chai Latte or another? They sell their Chai mix in the grocery and most of the time in the store itself so you can just add your milk at home. That’s how I do it! LOL …. easy

It was a vanilla rooibos tea latte, they do sell the bags for it but they aren’t cheap. Plus I want to try it with other teas. :)

I used to buy the Starbuck’s tazo chai mix from Costco. as you get three cartons for the price of one latte! The instructions for making tazo chai latte are half a glass of mix and half a glass of milk. Then you put it in the microwave (I did it for about 2min on high) I usually throw a bit more of the mix in. Now I use loose tea I tinker with things a bit.

It may sound silly, but one time I followed the recipe on a box of tea. They suggested steeping the tea in hot milk. I never would have dreamed of trying such a thing. It was actually good. Obviously the fat content was a little higher than half tea half milk (or another diary product).
