Love board games, we play them alot. I pretty much like anything. Munchkin, Catch Phrase, and Cranium are probably my top 3 though.

Oh dear- Tea and board games indeed. So many Friday nights (Perhaps tonight for example) revolve around friends coming over to try some ridiculous new tea we got in from China and play board games. I personally love:
Dominion, Agricola, Munchkin, Cathedral, Guillotine, and occasionally old classics like Monopoly and Risk.

I like board games, but Husband isn’t keen. I’ve got Monopoly on the computer, though, so I can get it in that way. It wasn’t really something I grew up with, but I did play the occasional one with my parents as a child (mostly, in my family, we play cards. Hearts is the standard). Monopoly, but it was rare because it takes so long. These days I also have a fondness for chinese checkers and backgammon although I’m not very good at either of them. I wish more boardgames would be made into computer games so I could play them too.

We had a caravan, though, and when we went on holiday in that in summer, my parents would usually buy a new game to play. We had one where you were due to inherit a fortune and the person who could spend $1000000 the fastest won the inheritance. That was hilarious. There was also one where it turned out that our box had not had the play money included from the factory so before we could play we had to sit down and draw some. LOL! That was a crazy game. Sometimes you had to do weird stuff like mime something and the others should guess what it was, or swap money with another player. What turned into our favourite though was one that was similar to Monopoly, only you owned airlines instead of streets.

Some friends of mine once showed my how to play Robo Rally too. That was fun and complicated. I kept accidentally killing myself by falling in a hole or walking off the board.

We have traditionally always brought out a board game for family gatherings, such as thanksgiving. A few years ago, that all changed when we found a card game called ‘Apples to apples’. It is amazingly simple to play, easy to get as many people involved as you want, and guaranteed to be horribly entertaining. It’s pretty much replaced the use of every other physical game I own.

There’s also a spinoff called ‘Cards Against ’Humanity’ that I need to get one of these days. It’s supposed to be Apple’s evil twin.

Dylan – cards against humanity is a lot of fun if you like living in the gutter ;) if you can’t find a copy you can download the print n play from their website to try it out. I was too lazy to do that though, just lucked out on the reprint and picked that up and the expansion. Its not something you’ll want to play with your grandmother unless she’s ok with being completely inappropriate but it’s great fun with people who can be utterly ridiculous. “what ended my prior relationship” answer: “an Oedipus complex” as a tame example :)

Hahaha, yeah, that’s about what I expect. Our Apples games devolve into something not terribly different from that anyway…

Ohh Apples evil twin indeed.
As long as you have a group that is not easily offended, it’s a hilarious time!

LOL I started with Apples to apple then migrated to it’s “evil twin”. Absolutely hilarious game!

I miss having time for board games… (something tells me I have to start giving myself more free time before I go insane…)

Settlers of Catan is possibly my favorite… I have great memories of playing hours on end. Also, Munchkin, Apples to Apples, Set…

Also, Cranium, Guesstures and Clue are pretty fun… And old Risk! The new version is too convoluted.

Wish we could somehow play here on Steepster! :)

there are sites that let you play turn based games online with friends :) We could certainly do something like that on steepster.

Since there was mention of two player games in another thread, I figured I’d post a few that I know my other half and I quite enjoy

dominion (though it’s not specifically a two player game)
all things big and small
lost cities
omen
hemloch
tsuro
for the win

I have not heard of any of these. I must go look them up!

That’s a great idea!!! I was playing Scrabble the other day with my family. I can’t have drinks like martinis. So I should ask for tea!! :)
