Common Ground: TEA and Board Games

I played a couple of games this weekend. We finally got the chance to play a full game of World War IV, which is a really beautifully balanced war game. None of us were being very aggressive, so the game ended in a draw, but I feel like I have a better understanding of the game and what is required to win it now. I also played Colt Express, in which you are bandits robbing a train in the Old West. It’s a bit of a crazy game because each player sets up several actions, then you go through and resolve them, so you have to pay attention to what people are playing or you get thrown off track.

I play boardgames with a few friends, and pretty consistent favourites have been Lords of Waterdeep and Deus. We’ve played Pandemic a few times, but get frustrated because we always lose! Forbidden Island is by the same guy, also a cooperative game, but more balanced… that one we win and lose in roughly equal proportions. :) Oh, and King of Tokyo is another fun one. We played Battlestar Galactica once and it was epic, but that game is soooo complex and took so long to play that we haven’t played it again. :)

King of Tokyo is really fun! The only other of those games I’ve played is Pandemic – that one is really tough!
