I’ve never heard of it, but would love to know more!!
Me either, I found it under whats new on the DT website.
Hm. Never seen that before on their site. I may pick some up next time I go in and see what it does. It’s only $4.50 for 100 grams, so it’s a pretty small investment! : )

They also list a new “Matcha Drink Mix” I’ve never seen before for a very low cost. Hmm. $4.50 for 100 grams?

Yeah I was looking at the drink too. If you get either let me know how you like it? I might need to place a online order if they are good :)
If I go for it, I will be sure to put a Steepster review for each. The Matcha Drink Mix business is really interesting to me as I wonder how they can sell matcha for that price…plus I like my matcha sweetened so the idea of pre-sweetened isn’t as unappealing as it typically would be for me. : )
I wonder if maybe its a price typo, I remember seeing a drink mix at the DT store when I went into town about a week ago and it was way more expensive then that.
That would make more sense, as their lower grade matcha is $14 for 50 grams.
Turns out the drink mix IS 4.50. It also lists cane sugar before matcha, so we’ll see how that goes.
I saw that too. 4.50 is pretty darn cheap. Even if the first ingredient in sugar, methinks they could probably sell it for a little more since it’s “matcha”
That would be SO GOOD on rice!
Oooh, popcorn. I’m getting some on my way home, maybe we’ll have popcorn tonight!
Oh yeah on popcorn would be good!
I’ve had matcha salt on edamame before. It was pretty amazing!
I’m thinking this would be interesting on the rim of a martini glass with maybe a sweet saki martini or something like that.
I have not heard of Matcha-salt either; perhaps on the idea of salt&spice mix as this is popular amongst professional cooks who tends to mix the spices with salt and one gets such culinary salts like: Sea Salt, Smoked Sea Salt, Pink Rose Sea Salt, Himalayan Sea Salt, Cyprus Flake Salt and Black Lava Salt sold 4.5 oz. bottle for $4.50 or 1lb bulk for $8.00
visit: www.mountainroseherbs.com
And don’t forget Peppercorns which can be mixed with other culinary salts for a unique presentation and alluring taste experience. (Smoked Black Peppercorns and Rainbow Peppercorns) are lovely and very aromatic.
Happy teas, forgive me if I seem to know, cause I do not.
This is something I definitely need to try! I LOVE DaisyChubb’s idea of having it on popcorn!!! I think that I want to try it on the two things that I use salt for: popcorn and french fries :)
I may even try to use it as a substitute for regular salt in baking!
I bet the salt would be good on top of homemade pretzels. Thanks for the idea Alphakitty. Im going to need to get some for the next time I make pretzels.
gaaaah YES what a good idea!
I’m gonna need to make a trip and get some of the salt for pretzels!
Please feel free to mail me some matcha pretzels as thanks XD
Lol if I could I totally would.
Or go the simple route and sprinkle some matcha salt on buttered toast. maybe fancy toast with fresh mozzarella and a sprinkle of matcha salt.
As for the seeming affordability of the matcha drink mix, my cynicism tells me that they only put in enough matcha for color or use a lower grade matcha, which the sugar would cover up. Would make a great topping for oatmeal though! Like instead of cinnamon sugar. Or in addition to cinnamon sugar. :D Or matcha toast instead of cinnamon toast! Or used for the coating on snickerdoodles!
I bet it would be amazing! on oatmeal!
I really don’t know about the drink mix. There’s probably next-to-no matcha in it, and can’t I sweeten matcha myself?
The salt, though…genuinely curious now what matcha salted popcorn would be like.
