Number of uses before putting IngenuiTEA in dishwasher

So from looking at the previous discussions, most people say they put their ingenuiTEA right in the dishwasher. My question is: after how many steeps/teas do you put it in the dishwasher?

It depends for me. I’ll go a week, rinsing well between teas, or sometimes I’ll just put it in after one or two brews. And it has to do with how annoyed I am at it. The filter piece in mine tends to float up when I’m brewing, which always drives me crazy. I tend to wash it more often when I’m grumpy with it.

Mine does that too! Someone suggested scratching the edges w/ a sharp knife.

Hahahaha. I have yet to have that happen to me. Hopefully it stays that way for a little while longer.

Whats a dishwasher? Hand washing in the sink, yes. Maybe a week, then I wash.

The one thread I looked at suggested the dishwasher. Thats all I was going by.

It is dishwasher safe according to adagio. I didn’t plan to put mine in the dishwasher – thought handwashing would do. However if I let the leaves sit in it too long after a heavily scented/flavored tea, then no amount of handwashing seems to take the smell away (even using natural soap) so I do get frustrated and put in in the dishwasher almost weekly (filter goes in the utensil basket). If I’d rinse it right away after use maybe it would be ok… or maybe I should try vinegar or baking soda to remove the smell. I do worry that if it goes through the dishwasher too much it will eventually have a shorter lifespan since it is plastic.

I would worry about the detergent though. Anything that can retain tea scent may retain detergent scent as well. And if the detergent scent can’t be detected by sniffing, you never know if there is still some trace amount. I use plastic box for food sometimes, and don’t know what to do with them. I think they definitely retain detergent. But then the glass lunch box’s plastic cover always get broken in the first few weeks.

Unsented detergent.

I’ll have to get me some of that.

At the end of the day, unless I’m still steeping a portion of leaves.

Why should it ever be dishwashered? Why would you need to use any detergent for tea ware?

So you’re suggesting just hand washing?

I always just took mine apart (as best I could, anyway), and washed the pieces by hand. I tried the dishwasher exactly once; I took it out and there were pieces (of the cup and filter) all over the bottom of the machine. :/

Hmm. I think I’m just going to stick to handwashing then. Do you use dish soap?
