Old tea tins- John Wagner and sons

I recently purchased an old large tea tin at a garage sale, and inside were several small tins with tea still in them. The brand is John Wagner and Sons- anyone have an idea how old this tea might be? The tins look pretty old, but still have a pretty tight seal.

Looks like the brand was sold in the 90s, but when the tea was produced is probably anyone’s guess.

I don’t know if you ever received any other answers, but I can add to this. I’m 58 years old; I was in college in the early 1970s, and we bought this tea all the time – in the tins – from the local Swiss Colony shop (which sold cheeses, meats, tea, honey, all kinds of foodstuffs.) They always had a huge wall section of Wagner teas and we had so much fun going in there and trying to decide which one to buy, because the tins were so pretty. There were two sizes: the bigger ones held about 4 ounces of tea, and the smaller ones about 3/4 of an ounce – depending on the tea. I sure wish I had kept some of those tins, because I’d love to display them now.

I thought I knew which tea/tins you were talking about but not quite sure until I saw Dustin’s link. Yes – I used to buy those or be gifted with them and end up having the tins about the house for years. As far as I know they’ve disappeared. Seems as tho it was much earlier than the 90’s like Carla says, I didn’t see a date mentioned at the link I’ll have to check again.

$46?! I’d better go check the garage! but that does include a nice little wooden shelf.
