Removing tea taste and smell
I got a steeper from David’s tea wich i really really love the only problem is that i now discover that some tea should not be made in it like the gingerbread man from Della Terra Teas the smell and taste have tainted any other tea I’ve try to made in it
I know there is a lot of trick to clean that but i want to be sure that it’s will not just add another taste and smell to the one already stock in it ( i can play with tea smell and taste but i don’t want to add chimical taste to it lol )
it’s like tea have got in part i can’t clean so for now my steeper take a break till i find a solution
I saw some comments in David’s tea Facebook page about cleaning methods for the Steepers but for the life of me I can’t remember what they were. I tend to use baking soda and lemon juice or vinegar for cleaning but I don’t know if those smells would stay in the plastic too. Hopefully more people pop up with ideas.
I have the Steepster too!
To start, you can take it apart (they showed me how in store), this helps to clean it a LOT because you can get to every little crevice! Grab hold of the part in the middle that stick up and wiggle it until it pops off. Now wash each individual part – I use baking soda & vinegar to get rid of the smells and stains, then give a good rinse – it NEVER smells or tastes like vinegar because once it dries the smell is gone.
If it’s still smelling like the tea, give it a try again. Even let the pieces soak for about 10 minutes.
I honestly thought I would never get the smells out, but once I took it apart to wash, I was good to go! Just remember how to put it back together :) lol
I’m ok with the smell it’s more the taste that bother me i like my tea to taste what they should lol i was aware that you could remove the strainer but the tea seem to have get in some part of the valve system where it should not go
I totally get the taste too – if you can get rid of the smell, i think the taste will be gone. Go ahead and soak all the pieces of the entire steeper – it’s worth the try to try to get the little pieces out anyways!
I’ve found the post Uniquity was talking about that was David’s tea say :
First, pull out the strainer from the inside. Underneath that, there’ll be a silicone stopper.
It’ll be on there pretty tight, so it might take a bit to remove it, but once it’s off, the other components will come apart on their own.
Here’s a picture of what the final product should look like
and give that link so we can’t see it all disassemble
So it’s sure worth a try since anyway now my steeper as no use so the worse is i break it but the final result will be the same i can’t use it lol
i’ve used Polident tabs. Fill the steeper with water, drop in a polident tablet, let soak (i usually let it go overnight), then empty and rinse well. works great!
