DavidsTea Take Out Options

Hello!

I just stumbled across Steepster, and I’m loving all the inforation so far.

I enjoy going to DavidsTea, but notice that they do not have a menu board. The staff are usually great, but I still have some questions:

What styles of tea (cold, etc.) do they serve?
What do they offer for add ons? (ie: milk, honey, etc.) and do they all offer the same?
Are the prices different (cold vs hot, etc.)?

I usually drink hot, black tea with no add ons… and I really want to try some new teas.

Any thoughts/comments/directions would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks, Jann.

Right now, all straight teas are $1 per cup, hot. (I think until the end of October?) They offer all of their teas as either iced or hot – not sure on the prices, unfortunately. They offer agave, milk (of varying %), cream, cane sugar and possibly honey. They could offer more than that, but those are all options I have heard in store. I highly recomment the wild black yunnan if you like black teas – it can take a licking and keep on ticking. I’ve wondered for a while what temp their water is though as it seems like they use the same tap for whites, greens, oolongs and blacks. I worry that the delicate teas could burn. Also, make sure to keep an eye on how long things have been steeping and remember to take out the bag! : )

You could always contact them via their Facebook page – and maybe ask them to post these options in their stores!

Ugh, I’ve noticed they are still using their filter bags. It was cute when they were promoting their new filter bags, but it’s NOT cute anymore. I think it’s unprofessional. When I go to a tea store, I expect my tea to be made properly!

@OP – My local store only carries skim and soy milk, I think, due to the size of their fridge. I remember that lattes are $4.50; can’t recall the rest. I think iced drinks are maybe more expensive? But all tea is the same price made into a to-go drink.

Edit: Occurred to me that the last sentence might be confusing. I mean that there is no difference in price depending on the type of tea.

I kinda love that they use the filter bags because tea is only a takeout option at most of our stores and I don’t know how else they could work it and still be quick. It also helps that I can dump it whenever I feel like it to end the steeping.

Actually, there are a few seats at the Spring Garden one, if you’re staying in they use the perfect tea mug or the Steeper thing for iced tea.

I actually had no idea that they did lattes – clearly they SHOULD have sort of signage or brochure to indicate the options to customers. I rarely buy my tea hot as I prefer to do it myself, but a latte would be a sweet treat. : )

The only reason I love the filter bags is so I can get multiple steeps! Of course filter bags aren’t my fave at home, but I know if you don’t want them in store you can ask for them to do it in the Steeper.

It’s definitely a plus on Spring Garden – people are in and out and the tea can steep as they walk!

You should definitely try a latte some time Uniquity – it is a real treat!

Okay, was just in and they list hot and iced tea both at $3.

Also, I didn’t initially SEE their sign in my location – it’s only just over the end of their tea bar area, quite small, and REALLY hard to miss. Since then, my location also draws the prices very large on a chalkboard they have around a support pillar in their store. I think that makes it easier to see that they have drinks to-go.

daniel… have you ever thought about asking them to not use a filter bag and instead brew it in a steeper instead? i would expect that almost all employees would be more than happy to do so.

Wow, thanks everyone. So it appears I may not be the only one confused as to what they offer ;) thanks for all the tips though, and perhaps I will post the question on their Facebook page too.

It is odd that they don’t have a menu of any kind.

Many thanks, Jann

haha yeah, that is definitely odd! You’d think it would encourage sales too!

Maybe it’s some sort of tactic to have more of a one-on-one experience with customers or something. I could probably make lots of guesses and they’re probably all wrong though haha.

I think they don’t have any menu/signage because they’re technically a retail store, and the tea bar is more of a side thing. But ask any employee and they’re happy to tell you about your options :)

I actually didn’t even realize for the longest time that you could get a cup to go…I thought you could only buy it in bulk! Then one day I saw someone walk out with a take out cup. I wish they had a little sign up too.

there is usually a little price guide near the sinks/drink stations, but there isn’t really a menu because you can basically have whatever you want lol.

Interesting, I thought David’s Tea offered only plain tea like without any sugar or milk!

hey guys. ok so you can try any of the teas in stock as a hot or iced tea, and there is also a latte option. hot or iced tea in 3 dollars, lattes are 4.50. all stores should have soy, skim and 1 percent at least, and your sweetening options are agave behind the counter and honey and raw sugar as well.
hot teas to go are usually ready fairly quickly as they use tea sacs, but beware that iced teas and all latte’s take about 5 minutes as the tea is steeped behind the counter before being iced or having milk added to it.
most associates should be more than happy to answer questions, make recommendations etc.
oh also, each store actually has two hot taps, one at 95 and one at 75 degrees :)

(Or 203 F and 167 F) :)

Hi Jann! Such convenient timing for this post, as we just recently launched our menu boards. Hoping to have them in most locations in the near future.

That said, here are the answers to your questions:

We serve hot and cold teas at all of our locations, as well as a daily choice of two already prepared Teas of the Day. Unless otherwise noted (i.e. special promotion), each of these options goes for $3.00. Add ons include 2%, 1%, or soy milk. For sweeteners, we have agave, honey, cane sugar or splenda.

Some stores are also set up to make lattes ($4.50), pitchers of iced tea ($5.00) or pots of tea ($5.00).
