$150+ Yixing
After hours of searching I have decided to give up and just ask. I’m wanting a good yixing since I’ve outgrown my cheap yixing. I was looking at jianming cheng stuff, and similar but have found a lot of upset customers saying their quality control is iffy…. so anyone that has any advice on where to get some good yixing that you’ve had experience with I would love to hear about it. My price range is sub-$200, and am looking for simple designs that are handmade.
have you tried chineseteapotgallery on ebay? or berylleb a trusted seller for me that always comes through. tell them both jrs416cars sent you. i have bought from both of them.
Does anyone know of a place that can do a test on yixing clay? I mentioned in another post that one of yings lids arrived broken and I kept it to see if I could find someone who could run a test on it.
Wonks, a place to check would be The Chinese Tea Shop in Vancouver. I’ve bought tea from Daniel and he seems quite honest and reliable. He has a selection of teapots he’s brought over from China and they appear very nice and in the price range you’re looking for. If you aren’t familiar with him here’s the link to his shop: http://www.thechineseteashop.com/ But I haven’t bought one yet, perhaps someone else here at Steepster has and can chime in.
My advice is to take it to a college campus. Aspiring geologists would probably love to feel that fractured lid up.
Also, I emailed Daniel because some of those pots are exactly what I’m looking for. Are the ones you got defect free? No leaks?… and all that jazz.
Wonks, that’s a “duhhh” moment for me as I work at a small liberal arts college with a decent geology department. Never thought of using that resource for clay analysis.
And I’m sorry but I didn’t make myself clear. I’ve only bought tea from Daniel, not one of his pots. But he has such useful info about yixing in his library I thought his pots warranted a look.
