NaNoWriMo 2012 - who's in?

I need to put in some serious overtime. At five days in I hadn’t even topped 2000 words. Terri HarpLady is WAY ahead of me. This is seriously embarrassing as I’m supposed to be the writer of the family.

The good news is the editing process is going swimmingly. I have to put in an hour of that on my previous project for every hour of fresh Nano writing, so suddenly I’m much that much better motivated.

Just keep writing , sis! I’m the closet writer, who comes out of the closet for a month of crazy binge writing once a year. You’re the one who writes every day. Between the two of us, we’ll get this done!

I’m doing NaNo this year! ….Or, uh, I’m supposed to be doing it. Pretty much, Life has sucker-punched me and I’m down on the mat. It doesn’t help that I’m writing a Dystopian Scientific Romance, which includes the most depressing of everything.

I can’t remember my NaNo name and I haven’t checked in for the last few days, but I’ve done NaNo for 6 years and finished every time. I’m hoping this isn’t the year that I break my streak~

Best of luck to everyone!

Day 15 – halfway point!

How’s everyone doing?

I’m happy I caught up and been keeping a good pace.
Annoying observation – my writing got better after the first 15000 words, so I can’t wait to edit the first part!

I hit 28,000 last night, and I’m hoping to break 30,000 today. I’m really happy with my characters and the stories, too – I was worried about running out of material, but I feel like the more I write the more stories I have to tell.

Currently at 23,005 words. I have a gig tonight, a gig tomorrow night, and a gig saturday morning. I’d like to hit at least 30,000 by the end of the weekend, and I’m pretty sure I can do it, in spite of my busy schedule. Tonight’s gig won’t run late, so I’ll hit it hard when I get home, I’ll need to unwind anyway before sleeping. I think I’ll have some time tomorrow afternoon maybe, and Saturday I’ll hopefully get in a few hours in the afternoon as well. Sunday I’d like to take a full day off…but, we’ll see!

I just hit 41k, hoping to make it to 42 at least tonight! My book is definitely going to be over 50k, so I’m hoping to get the whole first draft done this month. Then… a lot of editing!

whoa alpha! I’m amazed!

I broke 25K last night :)

awesome! That’s my goal for tonight, but I just got home from a gig and haven’t started writing yet. I’m thinking of giving myself the night off and just diving in tomorrow…maybe…

Me too. Barely! I’ve been hanging on by the skin of my teeth all month so far, unable to build up a good lead. What little lead I had yesterday (850 words) got used up because I was so tired.

After piddling around last night, doing dishes, organizing teas, checking my FB and Steepster, I finally settled in and wrote about 1600 or so words, bringing my total up to 24,620. I am hoping to get some serious writing in this afternoon & tomorrow afternoon as well. Tonight I have a late gig, tomorrow I have an early one…not complaining, as this is how I pay the bills, but I’d really like to get ahead!!

I’m cheating slightly today. I’m not writing on the actual NaNo story today, but I’m going to count it anyway. I just really need to get this one down before I forget the idea! It’s all my boss’ fault, really, for inspiring me.

How is everyone doing as we come into the final week?

I was struggling during the holidays to keep up, but overall good.

I realized a couple days ago that I’m not even 50% through my story once I hit 50k words, so I have quite a bit more to do after Nanowrimo.

Argh, still unable to build up any sort of lead! I suspect I’ll be hovering around par until the end at this point. Which of course also means that there is still the chance that I don’t make. Writtenkitten.net has been brought in for the rescue this evening, just to make the 1667.

Last night I made it to 40,109. Tony has been a good sport over the weekend, even asking me,“Why aren’t you writing?”. That’s really nice, as he likes to imply that all of my creative interested rob him of my time & attention. Now he’ll be out of town until Wednesday night, so I plan to finish this. I hope to get in a few hours worth tonight, and tomorrow is my day off from students, so I actually hope to reach 50K by the end of the day tomorrow, fueled by massive amounts of caffeine, no doubt! :)

I am at 59k (though still ~20k away from finishing the novel, I think), but at this point I think the most valuable thing about NaNo is building up good writing habits! That’s always been the hardest part for me, procrastination. But writing every day this month has been fun, productive and even therapeutic. I hope to continue this habit well into the future, even if it’s only a few hundred words a day!

I just broke ten thousand today. I may not be a champ like the rest of you, but I think I’ve found my place as the person to motivate the slower writers. “Hey it could be worse, at least I’m ahead of Ms. Whatsit…Uh oh, she’s catching up, I’d better start scribbling if I want to stay ahead.”

Ms W, you’re just as much a champion as the rest of us, and even if you only write 10K per month, you’re writing, and that’s success in my eyes. You’re also probably more particular about what you write than I am (half of my rough draft will probably turn out to be lame gibberish). So keep on keeping on, and hold your head high!

We second that completely. So long as you are writing and moving onward—you have succeeded. And that isn’t some feel-good pick-me-up fantasy. It’s the truth. :-)

Cheers.

I think NaNo is not so much about hitting 50k but about just to get yourself to write! Any amount at all is a victory if YOU feel good about it. It’s more of a challenge to yourself than some arbitrary goal line.

I’m up much later than I had planned, but I reached 43,615 words!
Only 6,385 to go!!

What a time to be behind! O.O

I need 2600 words today just to get up to par, because I found myself completely incapable of getting anything out at all. Just the 750 words not to break my streak at 750words.com was like pulling teeth.

Good thing it’s wednesday and I don’t have to go to work! cracks knuckles

Go for it!! Yesterday was my day off, other than errands and chiropractor in the morning, and I was determined to finish. I think I wrote 8000 words yesterday, LOL, and some of it was totally BS, I mean it was part of the story, but near the end it just devolved into me telling about it as narrative, talking about what I want to happen in that scene, because I just couldn’t do it first person anymore. That will have to happen in the rewrite(s).

I can’t do that many in one go. I’ve done it a time or two a few years ago at the beginning of the month to get ahead but almost always burned out a bit on it, and couldn’t do much at all the next day. This year I’m completely incapable of that sort of speed. I’ve got 1900 or so now, though, so I’m getting there slowly but surely. Maybe.

I sort of did it in sprints. Wrote for awhile, then did something else (like eat, & make more tea, lol). I just wanted to get it done. I have students all day today and tomorrow, and my xmas gigs start friday & then there will be no writing for the next 3 weeks, just dragging my harp here and there (which I love, BTW, so not complaining!). Anyway, even if you don’t make the deadline, you’re writing, and that’s awesome!

I had to give up last year. My head wasn’t properly in it and before a week it just felt like SUCH a chore and wasn’t fun at all. But then that was only a few months after we had moved in together so I wasn’t finished getting used to the new world order. I think that stressed me too much for it. First time I didn’t make it since 2006, though, so I would prefer it if it was a one time deal. The year that I decide I don’t want to do NaNo, I want it to be because I don’t feel like it, not because of a feeling of ‘never being able to make it anyway’ :)
