Seattle - tea places?
Going to be in Seattle Nov 10-17. We are primarily on a photography hunt with a Rush concert on Tuesday night, but there will be tea fit in here at some point. And if I can fit in chocolate and tea, that’s a win in my book. :)
Anyone have any suggestions? I’m planning on going to the Queen Mary Tea Room since they seem to offer high tea as well as a regular lunch menu – pretty sure the hub isn’t gonna do high tea. :) Any other places to check out? Or any reviews of the Queen Mary Tea Room?
Floating Leaves is my favorite place for Taiwanese Teas. It’s over in Ballard. Haven’t been to Queen Mary. On a humorous note, when I lived in Seattle 24 years ago good tea was difficult to find. Queen Mary is about a block from the basement apartment I rented for 6 years. Timing is everything.
My second favorite place for tea in Seattle is Teahouse Kuan Yin on N. 45th. in the Wallingford district. I’m down in Tacoma these days myself. I may be in Seattle on the 12th., 3 of my favorite Slack Key performers are playing a concert together.
If you want to explore the shops mentioned:
I’ll definitely have to check out at least one of those. They both look good.
Slack key sounds interesting. You made me look something up and learn today! :)
Thanks for the response!
Seattle! I am extremely jealous. I hope to be moving there soon and I am also curious about the tea shops. What about the new Starbucks tea store? I think it’s opening this month.
Well, chances are if you’re on a photo mission… you’ll swing by Pike Place Market. Pike Place has an old Spice and Tea shop called Market Spice, that is pretty famous for it’s eponymous super-cinnamony tea. If you like cinnamon, you should get some. There’s enough cinnamon oil in it that it actually causes damage to non glass or metal canisters that we’ve stored it in.
It’s right over by the Flying Fish shop. Which, by the way, has a big giant brass pig in front of it. It’s customary to take pictures of people sitting on the big brass pig. I’m not sure why. I had to do it as a kid, so I made my daughter do it too. ;)
I do have Market Spice on my list. I’ll have to pick up some of the cinnamon tea for a pal at work. I think I’m probably a bit too old for a brass pig picture, but you never know. :) Thanks for the info!
