Suggestions for Jin Xuan 'Milk Oolong'

I was wondering if anyone was willing to share or suggest tea companies (preferably online) that offer good quality Milk Oolong. There seems to be much debate on the exact methods used to create these teas and I am hesitant on making a poor choice purchase.

Teavivre’s is very nice, and DAVIDsTea has a very popular (but expensive!) one as well.

I think the DT recently dropped in price. I quite like it (but haven’t had it since the price drop, so hope that doesn’t reflect a drop in quality as well).

Although I haven’t tried the one from Mountain tea, I would expect their Jin Xuan would be a fine tea (and inexpensive, to boot):

Pureleaf, I tried a sample of their Four Seasons oolong a while back, and it was pretty good; customer service also. I really should place an order with them – just have to drink up what I have first :P

Pureleaf, I have indeed tried their teas. And I like what I have tasted. In fact, I placed a large-ish order with them several days ago via their Facebook special (which I posted about elsewhere).

tperez, your choice of teas depends on what you like. I quite liked the Imperial Pearl, for example, as it has some nice characteristics of a red tea. The medium roast TGY I am brewing today has alluring undertones of honey and an aftertaste of peach.

i would say teavivre, mandala, or berylleb(on ebay). all great sellers of good stuff.

Wow, berylleb has great prices. I’ll take your suggestion on them, trusting that you’ve used them before. They seem to have good prices on puerh – especially tuochas and mini cakes! Thank you.

I think my favorite Jin Xuan is Teavivre’s (unflavored variety). You definitely know that one is not subjected to wierd flavorings.

Tea from Taiwan offers a sample pack of Jin Xuans that includes one flavored one and a couple of unflavored, which was educational but I wasn’t really a fan of any of them.

I have generally not been thrilled with any tea labeled as “Quangzhou Milk Oolong”, which I suspect all come from the same supplier.

I expect American Tea Room’s Milk Oolong might get recommended here, and indeed it is really super delicious, but you should know that it is actually a Tieguanyin, not a traditional Milk Oolong. It is very creamy, though, and very expensive.

This thread has reminded me that I need to try Mandala’s Milk Oolong as well!

And if you’re looking for the creamy aspect of milk oolongs, I would stay away from Teavivre’s. Theirs is good but it’s much more floral and less creamy, whereas with Mandala’s it was extremely “milky”.

This thread is awesome. I love milk oolong & am on a quest for a few new ones. Tin Roof Teas in Raleigh, N.C. Has an awesome milk oolong. You can purchase from their website. I’m going to check out Mandala. I’ve never heard of them.

Yes. You’ve got the correct tea shop. It is a fabulous tea shop! I’m just nuts about their milk oolong!
