Sanctuary T & Hurricane Sandy

copied from the e-mailing list message rec’d this afternoon:

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Our beloved Sanctuary T is located on West Broadway and Grand Street, what some New Yorkers would call the “stomach” of Soho village (it’s restaurant row), but to us and our neighbors who live and work around our teashop, we know it as “the heart” of Soho. Sanctuary T’s sense of community is felt by our guests as are greeted by our family of staffers and settle into our calming and welcoming neighborhood spot. The shop is a second home to employees and guests alike. But unfortunately our establishment is on foundations from old New York, at sea water level, and it floods easily.

We did everything we could to protect our precious teashop from the storm, not knowing what Sandy had in store for us, but we still sustained major flooding. Since we are still without power, we are not sure yet what the extent of the damage is to our electrical equipment. But a team of dedicated staffers made their way there today without public transport or power to begin the cleaning process.

So a day after the power is back on- anticipating Sunday or Monday- sanctuary will once again be serving up delicious and totally fresh food, in keeping with our reputation as one of New York’s cleanest and freshest restaurants (according to Clean Plates NYC and all of our customers!)

You’ll be the first to know with an email blast when we are ready to serve you again. Sanctuary T is an establishment built by New Yorkers and through this crisis we will show the world again the best of New Yorkers. In the meantime, we really appreciate your patience with us and please be assured that we will fill any www.shopsanctuaryt.com retail orders as soon as humanly possible!

You can also follow us on our social network links for quick, up-to-date news on when we will be opening up again.

Follow-up 11-5-12:
If you donate to their charity of choice below, Sanctuary T will match your gift with credit in their shop (online or in store)!

We’re Back!

We are very excited to let you know that Sanctuary T and ShopSanctuaryT have resumed normal operations. Our team has worked tirelessly over the past week to restore our space and bring back the fresh, delicious menu you’ve come to know. And for the next two weeks, we would like to offer you a complimentary cup of tea to those who come in and share their hurricane survival stories with us! Your favorite servers can’t wait to see you.

A Personal Note From the Owner

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Nothing brings into sharp relief the great comfort of an ordinary life like a brush with crisis. At times like this our thoughts turn to those for whom ordinary life is challenging on a good day, and a crisis like this brings them to the brink of survival.

So we are using Hurricane Sandy as an opportunity to help those in need by supporting The Bowery Mission, a charitable organization in our neighborhood that has been helping homeless men, women, and children for over 130 years. The Bowery Mission is overwhelmed with people in need at this time and can use our assistance.

Sanctuary T has made a goal of raising $5,000 for this organization. Help us reach our goal and we will give you a gift certificate to Sanctuary T in the same amount that you donated. Here’s how it works:

1) donate any amount- even $1- directly to The Bowery Mission via this link.

2) if you chose to donate anonymously, make sure you reply to this email and let us know privately so we can issue your gift certificate.

3) you can use this certificate at Sanctuary T for anything from a cup of tea, to dinner, to Christmas presents, to your company holiday party, or anything in between! If you live outside NYC, you can request that this certificate be valid for shopsanctuaryt.com instead.

It’s that easy! We hope you’ll join us in bringing a little bit of Sanctuary to those less fortunate than us.

All our best,
The Camerons

I was thinking of buying some more Carnival anyway, so I went ahead and made a small donation to offset the cost. :-) Now to decide what else to buy so I’m actually helping the shop a bit too…
