Pu-erh Packed Pomelo?
Cruising thru ESGREEN (or however it’s spelled) recently, I was intrigued by their pomelo fruit packed with aged pu-erh. It looks just horrid enough to possibly be quite tasty (or at least cure an incipient Winter cold). Just wondering if anyone has tried tea packed either in a pomelo or a tangerine. TIA
I thought maybe it was Bonnie? Who had recently…but then…maybe not. I know there have been a few reviews recently that I noticed about this type of thing.

Thanks so much, Bonnie! I think the pomelo might be a bit more tart/grapefruity than the tangerine, but it’s also less expensive and I don’t necessarily want 16 of them until I know if I even like the taste. (The tangerines are listed as either camphor or agalloch/incense flavored.)

The music is a little piece that my granddaughter Megan wrote when she was 16 (she’s 17 now). She has better ones but I didn’t have them on my computer. I need some new ones because she’s written over a hundred so far and is writing a Symphony for school. She conducts sometimes and has written choral, band and orchestral as well as piano and jazz pieces since I bought her a keyboard 2 years ago. Before that she was writing down notes on score paper from what she was hearing in her mind.

You’re correct about the tangerine being much softer than the pomello would be for sure. The flavor was very mild on the one I reviewed.
That looks….scary! I am intimidated by pu-erh.
If you drank a bunch of tea that was meh you’t think all tea was meh. Pu-erh is quite the same. The is a world of difference between one pu-erh type and another. Many times a person picks up a cheap old piece of pu-erh and it doesn’t taste good or they don’t know how to brew it. That becomes a bad taste memory.
I have lots of samples of pu-erh. Now that people know how much I love it, they send me samples which thrills me to no end! Because of this, I’ve been able to taste caramel puerhs, mushroom and cedar puerh’s, mild and sweet, bread right from the oven pu-erh’s. If a PU is really fishy something is wrong. Earthy is a delicate way is fine. At first, the experience is new and it helps to have someone guide you a little. If you don’t like a really earthy pu-erh (shu or shou) try a sheng pu-erh.
Here are a few suggestions:
Kally Tea:flavored, Tropical White Pu’er
Verdant Tea: Alchemy Blends, Xinyang Chrysanthemum Pu’er or Sichuan Caravan
Butiki Tea Organic Ancient Phoenix Puerh (not a blend and you MUST rinse with boiling water 40 seconds before steeping) This is easy to brew, a coin shape and tasty like bread. Good with cream and sugar in the morning also.
Hmmm, Ancient Phoenix sounds interesting. I may try some of that when the Sandy craziness in NJ settles down a bit.

On har har. Just have it your way. There’s nothing worse than a tea snob telling you not to add sugar or milk. This is supposed to be something that tastes good! I make puerh lattes all the time. (Usually the way I can tell they’ll be good this way is that they’re rich and a little salty or bready).
cuppa bonnie has a real bravery in trying new things. i kind of wait for her reviews also she is a fine judge of tea as i have found out!
OR I’m dumb! Like the old commercial, “Give it to Mikey, he’ll try anything!” Yep, that’s me! Tonight I sat at the bar at Happy Lucky’s and drank 2 pots of strong Irish Black while discussing mrmopar’s good PU heart with Eric! Everyone enjoyed the little tangerine jewel of a pu-erh you sent!

Or you may try to make it by yourself. Here is how I made it:
I stuffed them with aged oolong, but puerh is good too and the procedure would be the same. I let the thing dry thoroughly so there wouldn’t be a need to roast it into black color.
It’s a nice winter indoor activity :-)
Nice looking project. What I had seen with the tangerine was packed with wet pu-erh then allowed to dry (See ESGREEN among others).
Wow, Gingko, you made Frankenfruit!! How cool is that?! Thanks for the link. Excellent job, but too much work for me; and the humidity here on the Gulf Coast would almost assure mold. Have you tasted yours recently? I’m curious as to how it is ageing.
I’m still not completely convinced I’m ready for this purchase, especially with ESGREEN’s recent faux pas here on Steepster; but I am still rather tempted, especially with flu season just around the corner.
