I’m in NYC with a friend (we saw Hamilton last night! AMAZING!). Most of the NYC recommendation posts seem to be pretty old, so I’m reviving this one. Any recommendations? Tea-related or otherwise. :)

So jealous you got to see Hamilton!

Bellocq, Harney & Sons, Alice’s Tea Cup, T2, Laduree… How long are you in town? If you like matcha, check out:http://www.grubstreet.com/2015/01/where-to-eat-and-drink-matcha-in-manhattan.html. Te Company is a wonderful oolong cafe with a soothing atmosphere and great pineapple cookies.

Also Bosie, Podunk, Tea Drunk, Cha-an, Ippodo, and Fang Gourmet Tea… We have more tea places than I realized!

If you can get to Queens, Fang Gourmet Tea is amazing. Their tea is not cheap but the quality is very high. If my memory serves me it is in Flushing.

The Ten Ren Tea location in Manhattan has a big selection of tea, the Ten Ren Tea location in Queens is not worth bothering with.

My two favorite places are:

T-Shop in downtown Manhattan. http://www.tshopny.com/

and….

Fang Tea Gourmet in Flushing Queens. http://fangtea.myshopify.com/

Both carry very high quality tea. Tastings are affordable, usually 10 dollars.

I was in NYC over the memorial day weekend and visited a couple of tea places in Chelsea. Had a milk foam oolong tea at Gong Cha that was pretty good. It’s definitely a notch above your average bubble tea joint.

I was less impressed with MatchaBar. It’s a cafe where, as you might guess, everything is made with matcha. Their matcha latte was chalky and not as good as the one I make at home. The matcha brownie was okay. I think this shop is trying to capitalize on the trendiness of matcha but their execution isn’t nearly as good as the neighborhood Asian cafes I’ve visisted.
