Clarifying, are we talking March or April 23? Secondly, what time are we thinking? Just trying to see when I wound need to get off work if I did a partial day. Lastly, if I do a partial day at work, can I get a lift into town as you come by the mall, Shayne?

Incendiare said 2013-03-03 17:52:56 -0500

I think we’re talking about March 23rd, right?

Small
ShayneBear said 2013-03-03 17:55:48 -0500

March 23rd, yes. And I think we’re shooting for a 1pm ish meet? And of course you can get a lift Heather :) I apologize ahead of time for the state of my car though, it tends to be a bit of a mess..

Ok. I was thinking April for some reason. I’ll see about March. I’ll probably have to work at least partial day. If I can, it would be best to stay til at least 1 if possible.

Talk to your boss and see if you can make it work, and then we can fiddle with timing a bit to make it work for you too :)

Small
Incendiare said 2013-03-03 18:09:03 -0500

Yeah exactly, the time personally doesn’t matter to me. I could meet up much later if you can’t get off work so early.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-03 18:48:15 -0500

For a Saturday, 1 is just the earliest I could meet if I take the bus in. I’m pretty flexible for timing otherwise, because I don’t mind taking the 9pm ferry home.

Small
CrowKettle said 2013-03-04 00:50:38 -0500

I’m flexible with the time as well. :)

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-04 01:13:01 -0500

Ok, since Saturdays are a busy day, they’ll want me as long as possible. It would probably be best if I could stay til 2 or 3 to make sure lunches are covered. That should give a few hours at the minimum. I’ll check with my manager when I see him on Tuesday, but he and the owner are at a trade show in Vancouver this weekend.

Chizakura said 2013-03-04 01:11:51 -0500

Aww, this sounds like so much fun. :( Too bad I’d have to get on a ferry. Dx Ah well, have fun everyone. :)

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-06 14:53:08 -0500

Are you in Van? OMGsrsly is coming over for the day.

Small
Chizakura said 2013-03-06 14:57:03 -0500

No, I’m in Langley. Close though. :)

Small
Incendiare said 2013-03-06 15:00:34 -0500

Ah, that’s too bad. We should all do a Vancouver meetup sometime. :)

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-06 18:41:47 -0500

That would be fun! More expensive though, because most tea places (at least that I go to) aren’t walkable, and driving in the city honestly kind of sucks. The transit daypasses are $9.75. If enough people were interested in coming from Victoria, I could borrow a car, but yeah. City driving. Ugh.

Small
Chizakura said 2013-03-06 21:19:58 -0500

Yes, day passes are just nuts. X_x; But it’s not any cheaper (from where I live anyway because of the multiple zones) to buy ticket by ticket either.
… It’s more affordable on a Sunday though~ xD

Small
Incendiare said 2013-03-06 22:02:34 -0500

Ah, I don’t mind taking the bus. Maybe we could just settle on going to one place for tea and do a swap and just hang out or something. Who knows!

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-07 01:21:56 -0500

That sounds like a good idea. I’ve been meaning to check out more tea places in Vancouver anyways, so this will be a good excuse to go, err, browsing.

On a side note…two words…

Spring Collection!! woot!!!

I know, right? I was thinking of going Uptown after class today so perfect timing. Coconut Oolong FTW. Those paisley bubble teacups are adorable too.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-06 16:35:46 -0500

I know. I’m broke too. And yes. Coconut oolong. $4 in pennies to take to the bank and I should manage a cuppa to go.

Small
Chizakura said 2013-03-06 21:22:21 -0500

To be honest, other than curiosity for the coconut oolong (I love everything coconut _) none of the teas themselves excite me, but I’m super excited for the new teaware! I want to see if I can hop on a bus to David’s this week to see them in person. Sometimes things seem a lot different in real life than in a picture. Plus there’s no nervousness about it breaking on the way… Not to mention I haven’t been in a David’s for nearly a year. :(

Small
Incendiare said 2013-03-06 22:01:19 -0500

Didn’t have time to make the trip but I’ll leave the coconut awesomeness as a Friday after class reward. I agree, the others don’t really appeal to me. The teaware makes me wonder what people do. Are there really people out there who will go out and buy, say, a seasonal teapot, and then buy yet another one when DT comes out with a new design? I don’t even HAVE a teapot here right now and would still feel guilty getting the paisley one.

Heather Martin said 2013-03-06 22:21:55 -0500

I love the elephant and peacock mugs. The bubble cups are adorable too. And they have the new timeline colours…the purple calls to me. The coconut oolong is definitely up my alley, though I am curious about the honeydew mate, though if things go they way I want them to over the next few months, I may have to avoid mate. The Pom Tango sounds interesting too. I don’t remember if I liked Daydreamer last year or not, and I don’t think I have ever had Copabanana. I’m willing to try them all. DH got paid today, so I might have a chance at getting some this weekend, maybe.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-06 23:44:38 -0500

The coconut oolong is so good. Delicious toasty coconut.

Small
Chizakura said 2013-03-06 23:47:16 -0500

Ooh, you’ve tried it already? :) Now I want to try it too. xD That was the one that piqued my interest the most.

Heather Martin said 2013-03-18 00:01:54 -0400

Coco Lemon Thai…omg. Winner winner chicken dinner (sorry for that folks!:P)

OMGsrsly said 2013-03-06 18:44:17 -0500

So. Samples to trade. How much tea is usually considered a sample? Teaspoons full? Grams? I checked the sample swap thread and searched the forum, but everything says to just check with the swap partner. :)

Small
Chizakura said 2013-03-06 21:18:17 -0500

My assumption would be enough to make two cups. Gives you room for user error/out of whack tastebuds to re-calibrate, hehe. :) If I were to do a trade, that’s what I’d do at least.

Small
Incendiare said 2013-03-06 22:03:10 -0500

Two cups sounds reasonable. I was thinking maybe 5g per sample?

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-06 22:23:26 -0500

I was just gonna bring my teas, some small bags and a teaspoon to measure a few servings, though I honestly don’t have that much tea to spare right now. I’m pretty low on most of my stash, sadly.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-07 01:20:26 -0500

I definitely can’t bring everything with me! :) I’ll make up some samples at home and bring them. Some teas are 1.5 tsp and others are 1 tsp, so I’ll measure out two servings per tea. It’s generally about 5g anyways.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-18 00:04:57 -0400

Alright, have we thought of how to do this? I just rummaged in everyone’s cupboards and wrote down the ones that sounded interesting to me. On a side note, it is funny how much overlap some of you guys have, and that I have with all of you. :) I am gonna take a few and make sure my cupboard is up to date, as best I know.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-18 03:15:42 -0400

I have no idea. I guess if anyone has any requests of me, make them? I am limited in what I can bring.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-19 04:25:33 -0400

Should we put our request lists on this thread, our group message or individually? I’m happy to make samples of what I have, but I am really low right now, so most of what I have is in the 25g or less range. That said, if I run out of something, I will still gaining more teas via the swaps and I can always get more of what I lost later, if I want it again.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-19 04:26:41 -0400

Also, should we set a limit of what we can swap? Like 5 per person or something? Lastly, does anyone have extra swapping bags?

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-07 23:35:37 -0500

I can leave early that day, I just have to remind my boss when he does the schedules for that week. I’d say no earlier than 1, but 2 or 3 would probably be ideal. I can time it a bit better based on knowing which ferry OMGsrsly is taking.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-08 00:39:40 -0500

Oh, I’m taking the 9am ferry. No worries if you can’t meet till later, though. I want to grab some food (Green Cuisine!) and wouldn’t mind wandering around a bit. If from 3-5 or so works for everyone, I’m happy with that!

Which reminds me. A non-steepster friend is interested in coming, and we’re wondering if it’s OK with you WRT a ride in, ShayneBear. We have a ride back to the ferry after dinner with friends.

Small
ShayneBear said 2013-03-08 10:23:05 -0500

Yep! I will make sure my car is cleaned enough to have enough seating :) Having a full license comes in handy sometimes

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-08 01:08:12 -0500

Have we decided where we might want to meet?

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-08 21:36:11 -0500

Nope! I was hoping a local would decide, because everything seems to change between visits.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-09 01:43:19 -0500

I don’t think Jaga Silk will be open on Saturday.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-09 02:04:08 -0500

Tea crawl! :) I’ve never actually been to a Murchies, and I must make it to Silk Road. It would be cool to check out Jaga Silk as well, I’m intrigued by their London Fog latte mix. It looks like they’re only open Tues-Fri, though? One thing to note is my friend is incredibly allergic to mint. David’s is generally good about it, though.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-14 03:01:20 -0400

Ok, so it’s about a week til the meet. Do we all want to do a tea crawl, starting at Silk Road?

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-14 04:00:33 -0400

Sure! :)

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-14 21:53:11 -0400

It would be Silk Road, by Chinatown, then Davids a few blocks down Government, then Murchies (great for some nibbles too) and Teavana. Time allowing, Special Tea is a few blocks over from there on Fort Street. We could pick a place like Davids to have a sit down for a bit if we wanted to. We wouldn’t have to buy tea in all the places, but we could browse and chat, and swap. Any idea what time we would want to start? Does anyone know if Steepster allows messaging multiple people in the same message like Facebook?

Small
CrowKettle said 2013-03-15 14:55:10 -0400

That sounds like a good plan! You can add multiple recipients to private messages here too, although I’ve never used it myself.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-15 15:07:17 -0400

Ooh yeah, we can. Just need to all be following each other.

Small
Heather Martin said 2013-03-15 21:19:27 -0400

Ok. I think we should send a private message with cell contact etc. so that our info isn’t on this public thread.

Small
OMGsrsly said 2013-03-15 23:39:23 -0400

Roll call! CrowKettle, ShayneBear, Heather Martin, Incendiare, and me, right? Have I missed anyone? I hope not.
