I’m worried about that too. I use Steepster as my tea brain to remember things! It would be horrible if it suddenly dies!
I didn’t even realize it was a beta; can someone call and get answers??? Maybe a representative will reply!
I’m not trying to get people worried or anything. To be fair, I don’t have a reason to think Steepster would disappear, but I was just hoping one of the older steepsterites might know about the history of the site etc. and be able to clarify!
That is reasonable.Perhaps they just have forgotten, or its one of those debugging issues from hell, like somehow removing the “beta” from the title makes a giant internet black hole so instead of rewriting the code they just said “forget it”. If its been like that for years, that would be my assumption. Either that or they are referring to the current formatting and style, not like facebook who just throws unnecessary junk at you. In all honestly so long as they are working to improve the performance and ease of navigation of the site you could call it a “beta.”
I will email Jason and Ricky – see if they can shed some light.
i signed up for glitch.com a couple of months ago and FELL.IN.LOVE. then they dropped the “we’re closing” bomb. i came here a couple of days later and fell in love again. everything i end up loving either gets discontinued or closes.
please don’t close, steepster!
although, i think gmail was in beta for some time? maybe?
Glitch is EXACTLY the reason I was a bit nervous. I don’t think anyone saw that coming. #sadness I was Squeeks btw! And that game was absolutely preposterous. :)
Glad that Jason cleared it up!
you know, i had a feeling you were talking about glitch. heh. i’m kay nine over there!
I don’t think we should be worried. Google is NOTORIOUS for keeping everything in beta for years and years, especially G-mail. And they’re doing more than fine.
I think they keep it in beta was an easy way to say “this isn’t finalized and may break every now and then”. Steepster goes down a little more often than I’d like, but it’s in beta, so I can’t complain too much ;)
I’m pretty certain my gmail is still beta, and I’ve been using it for 8 or so years. I am a little bummed that iGoogle is going away though, heh.
igoogle is going away? That’s a bummer. What will people use as a start page?
I don’t know if they’re doing something special instead or just regular google. It’s got a year left though, so it’s not all bad.
Don’t worry about us shutting down, we’re here for the long haul. There’s no real reason we’re still in beta other than that we haven’t updated the logo since we first started :). There are definitely more features we planned before taking it out of beta, but at this point I think it’s safe to consider it no longer in beta.
Thanks for clearing this up! :) Steepster has quickly become my new Internet home and I don’t plan on going anywhere.
And thanks for creating such an amazing site.
So when is Jack going to make a new logo ;)
This is good to know! thanks!
Oh, what a relief! Steepster is the first thing I look at every morning when I open up my phone or laptop and I think I am certifiably addicted at this point. Also makes my family happy as I can get my ‘tea talk’ out without chatting them into a too-much-tea-talk glazed over coma. :) Thanks for the reassurance!
“too-much-tea-talk glazed over coma”, with people I know that’s anything beyond would you like a hot beverage. Thank You Steepster for being here.
