Which teas rank highest in "body"?
I wold like to try some teas that rate highly in the category of “body” but it’s hard to search for teas that way. If anyone could provide some suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks, Steepsters!
Depends on personal taste, I think. And personal definition of body. I think I agree largely with mrmopar above, though. On Assams anyway.
Hmm… I am not a fan of black teas. Does this mean in general that teas have less body the less processed they are?
I have a different definition of body for black tea and green tea, for example. Green tea is milder, yes, but different. Normally, though, I associate the word ‘body’ mostly with black teas, so I assumed that’s what you were asking about. :)
I think of body as a richness of taste and a thicker mouthfeel than water. For me, I get that the most from black teas and roasted oolongs but maybe that’s just a misunderstand of the term.
I was reading about “brothy” green teas and wondered if that is another way to refer to body, which, like Uniquity, I also think of as a thicker mouthfeel or viscosity
.
That would make sense. Matcha has that for me, since it’s powdered tea rather than steeped leaves. I’m not at all familiar with green teas though so I can’t recommend any.
I can speak for Assams and they definitely have a lot of body and that heavy feeling on the tongue. We specialize in Assams and get them direct from a grower, so they are very fresh. If anyone is interested, I’ll be happy to answer any questions.
