(disclaimer: recent Starbucks employee)

I have really high hopes that Starbucks will cut the crap out of Teavana. My friends who work there have told me some truly shitty things about the way the company is run, but Starbucks has a track record of being very generous to employees. Hopefully that will trickle down and the Teavana employees will in turn treat their customers better.

I don’t expect quality or prices of tea/teawares to change; but I think that this will end up being an even stronger gateway to the world of tea, which I think is awesome. Who cares where people start? The more tea drinkers we have, the higher demand will be, and the more our favorite tea companies will flourish. :)

Well, if they were going to make a huge change they are sure taking their time. This happened about 2 years ago and there are still plenty of horror stories from the customer and employee perspective. It seems like they just bought it but kept everything running the same. I’m really surprised that they haven’t been criticized openly for this BUT it may also be that they are making changes discreetly and that things are getting better. There seems to be less new Teavana vehemence, maybe we’re all stuck in the past and the present is an improvement.

The Teavana near my house has changed for the better since the merger. Salespeople are less pushy and don’t follow you around the store trying to get you to buy stuff. There’s somewhat less of the overpouring also. It’s still not my favorite place, but it’s light years away from what it was.
