Collections

I read an article the other day that said that tea drinkers are more prone to collecting things. I was curious to see if this was true.

I collect miniatures. I am currently obsessed with the little porcelain figures that come in the Red Rose tea boxes, but have collected tiny things all of my life.

They didn’t give a reason for this assumption, and I can’t find the article again. So, I am turning to Steepster.

Do you collect anything? If yes, what is it? Do you think a tea drinker is more likely to have a collection of something other than tea?

I used to be more of a collector, but after moving around so much the past few years, I’ve started to collect less. Although, I have a ton of tea related items, so maybe I’m starting to be more of a collector again.

I’m definitely a digital pack-rat, though.

digital pack-rat. I love it I am too, but i’ve never heard that title before!

I used to collect dvds, books and music like crazy, but now I’m happily a digital packrat. The only thing I have a, ot of now is tea.

I love movies and have a pretty nice collection. I love most genres and so my collection is pretty varied. I also collect autographed baseballs and other baseball memorabilia. Specifically anything Yankees related. The latter is an expensive hobby so my collection is not as large as I would like but I’m pretty happy with it so far.

I’m with you on the movie collecting. My friends use me like a Blockbuster. We call it EmFlix.

Hmm…I certainly seem to collect tea, especially after joining Steepster! ;) I also like to hang on to books.

Yes, Steepster has definitely made me more of a tea collector. Last night my friend said, “You’re going to be like one of those crazy cat ladies except instead of cats you’ll have a crazy collection of tea.” That’s when you know you have a problem :)

Dustin said

You will be nothing like those crazy cat ladies! Have you seen those people on the animal hoarder shows?! They have dead rotting cats hidden underneath their couches! It’s not creepy to have tea under your couch. It’s strange, but not creepy. And you will smell WAY better than a crazy cat lady too!

“It’s strange, but not creepy.” Love it!! Thanks for the encouragement!

I don’t think of myself as a collector, but I do have a lot of books, tea and candles. I also like to buy TV Series for myself if the show was good enough to watch more than once. I guess I have a lot of teaware too, but that’s because people like to give me teapots. It’s a little dangerous, lol.

When people find out that I like to knit, they give me yarn. Thankfully, I haven’t had that problem with teapots…I don’t have that kind of room! ;)

I’m definitely a pack rat, but I also know this runs in the family and I just use tea as my outlet instead of everything else. My husband keeps me in line with most other things, one thing in one thing out sort of thing. But tea was not the cause of my slight hording, my slight hording has just been focused on tea.

Bubbles said

See, that’s what I think. I think collectors might be more prone to having a collection of tea…but I don’t think liking tea makes you want to hold onto things.

I’ve just put myself on a “no new tea” thing for awhile, my husband’s pointed looks told me that I’ve gotten a few too many over the last few weeks.

I have to be careful, because I tend to become a bit of a hoarder and less of a collector at times. Having a limited amount of space actually helps with this…I have to think about my purchases more.

My grandfather was a hoarder, and my father and younger brothers are well on their way. I don’t like clutter – Yes, I like my things but I only keep things that have use. My father can’t pass up a deal, no matter how useless the item!

I collect any sheep-type things! Sheep figurines, sheep stuffed animals, sheep calendars… whatever! I love sheep. It probably has something to do with my love of yarn. I also seem to collect yarn… and books! Ooh and crystals. I have about 60-something crystals now.

I used to collect stuffed animals as a kid. Then, I eventually started collecting crystals. I’m sure there was other stuff in there too! Now, it’s just tea!

I love antique teacups! I am still searching for a creative and practical way to display them, but I have some stored in my kitchen cupboards to use for when I’m at home drinking tea. We live right down the road from Replacements Limited, and I can spend hours in there just looking at all of the pretty china!

I’m with you on trying to find ways to display my teacups. Share your ideas when you find them :)

I collect stacks of paper (bills, check stubs, my daughter’s homework or drawings, miscellany…anything goes as long as it’s paper), and apparently I really admire my collection of paper stacks because it seems every day I have a brand new one!

But seriously, I collect elephant figurines. And when I grow up and get a little more organized, I will rekindle my fascination and love for all things miniature and build a dollhouse. Or two.

I was starting to get a little crazy with tea, so I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t BUY any new tea until I got through a significant portion of what I already had.

I collect music. Vinyls, cds, tapes, promotional items, t-shirts. Its bad. I realize I have a problem but I love music so much. There is hardly a moment of my day when music isn’t playing. I also collect all types of teaware except English teaware.

I’d love to live where I could have music playing all day long. Right now, I think my neighbors would kill me. (VERY thin walls.) With a collection like that, though, you must have something for every mood…

I too am music junkie! That’s why I can’t help talking about it in some of my tea reviews! Music complements everything in life, don’t you think?

I love the expression «The Sountrack of our Lives»… I hear a song or melody, and I’m taken back to excatly where I was, with whom and what I was doing even it’s from many years ago… Music is a Time Machine!

Bubbles-Oh yes, music for every mood. I’m also one of those people that loves every type of music. Seriously, from rock to industrial to experimental to punk to classical to jazz to world music to rap to really just about anything though I am very selective within genres.

TheTeaFairy-Yay for another music junkie! I thought you might be since I’ve noticed music talk in your reviews. Music really does compliment everything in life. Yes, love that expression. I have 2 random songs that pop up at unusual points in my life. People Are Strange by the Doors would always pop when weird things were about to happen or were happening. Also, Heart of Glass by Blondie would pop up when awesome things were happening. I have no idea why but those 2 songs are definitely on the soundtrack of my life.

Stacy, I love both of these songs! Lol about People are Strange when real weird stuff is going on :-) Heart of Glass is just plain awesomness, and it doesn’t matter how old it is, I find Blondie’s music to be still current and relevant! My own Soundtrack involves lots of songs from The Beatles, Nirvana, Bach, Bob Marley, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohaed, Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, Miles Davis, Simon & Garfunkel… to name just a few!! Basically, I love anything in any genre that will stir some emotion in me, same with tea :-) That’s why I find it hard to separate the two…

I agree about Blondie. Love her. Nice selection of music there! I feel the exact same way about music needing to stir emotion. My husband listens to some stuff that is just devoid of emotion and I just don’t get it. Music should make you feel something.

I used to play the clarinet. Still have it, just I don’t play anymore. I have over 100 old school CDs. I put most of my music on ITunes. I collected music CDs in 1997/1998. My private music teacher recommended I build a collection, and now it’s huge. I buy stuff for my IPod now. I have a docking station. I would collect books, but I downsized my book collection. I only have 10 books left (I have a NOOK though). I LOVE YouTube VEVO. I’m 33 now.

I’m a collector of all sorts of things! Books, movies, pink Depression glass, antique tea cups, anything Doctor Who, tea, and gnomes.

Josie Jade said

Pink Depression glass is beautiful! For Christmas last year my Mom gave me a pink Depression dessert glass set of my Grandmother’s – it’s 4 little dessert cups with a matching tray. Too bad I’m too afraid of breaking it to use it :)

Josie, use the cups! You will be glad you did. And you will be surprised how successful you will be at not breaking them!

Bubbles said

Oh, Josie, you HAVE to use those! I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to have a tea party with those… :)

Bubbles said

EM: Gnomes!? I love gnomes. I had one of mine get “kidnapped”, and go on vacation once. It was quite funny.

Em said

Pink Depression should be used :) I love bringing mine out when I have friends over or when we have special dinners or teas at church. Also, Josie, if you’re afraid of breaking your Grandmother’s, you could always go out and get a similar set to use more often. Pink Depression is pretty easy to find.

I am a big fan of gnomes. My mom and I would search and search for them when we’d go for walks in the woods when I was younger. Sometimes we’d even set out a gnome picnic with the trail mix we’d carry. It made walking in the woods fun. I highly recommend any books by Rien Poorvliet on gnomes. He really knows his stuff. I’m pretty sure he’s a gnome.
