Mailing Matcha

Hey Steepster Peeps!

I had an idea to give sampler sizes of some teas from my stash as christmas gifts, packaged up in a christmas tins. I thought this be good to dent my stash, get relatives into loose leaf teas and show them some fantastic online sellers available to them.

2 of my relatives like matcha, but they never had flavored or good quality stuff – what would be the best way to package up a couple teaspoons of matcha? What do you peeps do for tea swapping matchas?

I have used basic ziplocks myself with no trouble (for both matcha and powdered chai)

I wonder if old pill bottles (the little ones from prescriptions, with the child-proof caps) would work, if you clean them well? Or go to a dollar store/craft store and in either the gift wrap or bead section you should be able to find teeny tiny ziploc style baggies. I find that around here at the craft store they go for about $5 for a pack of 100 and they’re the perfect size for single servings of tea!

I have used the empty containers from our glucose test strips they have a snap tight lid and the matcha does not stick inside of them. I have also used small zip bags as well. Last option which I have also done is to fold over tin foil into neat little pouches. :)

I think that Azzrian’s little foil pouches work very well. If you want to make it special, though, you can go here: http://www.specialtybottle.com/metalcontainers.aspx and find some of the nice small tins which I used to get for Matcha swapping.

LiberTeas…cool idea…though if AwkwardSoul is looking to send the packages, the tins might add to the weight of the package……..but it could be that it’s a non issue.

Lynxiegrl: My thought was that if it was for a gift, the tins might make it a little nicer than the foil … for lightweight, easy to ship packages though … Azzrian is brilliant with the way she packages up the matcha in the foil pouches. It’s perfect!

Oh I agree. While I like the fact that foil was invented and so useful, when it comes to something that looks appealing…..tins definitely look a 100 times better!

I use the tiny tins from the DAVIDsTEA advent calender, or the tiny little ziplock bags. God we sound like drug dealers!

I know right! I figure I won’t do the foil thing if I’m mailing out of country, sounds too drug like!
