Steepster Migration

As Courtney mentioned, it updated but now seems to be stuck again and isn’t showing new notes…

Yep, I have same trouble. Update was nice, but… it seems it is stuck again.

Arrrrrgh! Same here! Poor Steepster is having a rough go of it lately!

Yes, it pushed through all the notes from the last “stick” but since all the new notes I’m seeing over on the “Recent” feed still aren’t coming through to my Dashboard…

Okay now it looks to be working again!

I’m also getting current entries/notifications pushed to my Dash again!

I haven’t been seeing any new tasting notes or notifications, so yep, I think it’s stuck again.

Yup, Dashboard is not updating yet again… I’m seeing new posts on Recent that are not displaying on my Dashboard.

My dashboard’s still broken. I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t get fixed until Monday.

Considering it took us four days of waiting last time, and then the “fix” didn’t even last a full 24 hours…

Leafhopper I have no doubt you’re correct about that. : (

Yep, Are we all stuck this time on Mont Blanc tasting note?

Courtney said

Yep, I’m on the Mont Blanc tasting note as well.

I’m stuck on that same one, Lexie.

Communication on updates to these recurring issues are the norm on other forums and would be much appreciated here. I assume Steepster is not a priority for Adagio since this site is ad-free and thus not a money-maker, but I feel (gasp, the f word) that Steepster is still severely neglected even after the handover.

The poor communication urges me to ask “What gives?” Why keep the loyal user base of a fine community in the dark?

I agree. As one example, no one was told we’d lose the ability to update our profiles before this change was made. Long-time users just suddenly “lost this ability” with no warning or explanation until someone asked, “Hey, I can’t do this anymore.” Had we been given some notice, we could’ve updated outdated information beforehand. I have asked on this thread multiple times when this feature would be returning, and have received no answers whatsoever. Not only do I feel that, as one of the long time, loyal user base, I’m being punished by having features taken away with no warning because of the “spammer problem”, worse yet, I feel I’m being ignored.

Yeah, I asked them before, just to post a quick message that they are AWARE of the freeze even if it wouldn’t be fixed for a while…

I completely agree with you guys.
I understand it could happen. I can (somehow) understand that nobody wants to check it out because it’s weekend. But it looks still pretty much same as before the handover.

They have promised us some new features or/and fixes; but I would know about them beforehand. I would get over the freezes if I knew something is setting up in the background.

There would be nice hearing from Tech team — we are working on those things. We expect some troubles. Or something. But if it just loses some features (because of spam, mostly); and there is no ETAs or just “it’s not working” from users only, it’s very discouraging.

And for example… I was able to update my profile a month ago or something… but why some other users can not, I wonder.

Maybe I am being selfish and just thinking about ‘me,’ but I want to at least be able to update my profile in order to let some new folks who started following me know that #1 I am a cranky old queer lady and #2 in spite of that, I am not an ignorant ogre; I’m just not into the whole ‘ooooh oooh-you followed me so I’m gonna follow you’ thing. Nothing wrong with it; just not how I operate. It really saddens me to feel like we are the ugly step children who got sold a bill of goods on a New Improved Steepster Experience that didn’t happen. sigh

Also, it does seem a bit extreme that most of the site must freeze to take care of spammers.

tea-sipper Agreed! There will always be spammers so are we to assume that there will always be lengthy freezes, too?!

It almost seems like Steepster was functioning better before it was passed off. I don’t recall days long freezes like this before. It makes me wonder what the motivation was for a company to take on management/ownership of the site if it wasn’t going to be maintained. :/

White Antlers, I just tried to look at your profile and there wasn’t any into. No tasting notes, bio, cupboard info. If anyone else seeing the same thing? I’m viewing on my phone, so its possible that is effecting it, but I was able to see other people’s tasting notes and stuff.

Dustin No, there is nothing in my profile. There used to be. Now the only thing I can change is the profile picture. I cannot enter or redo my bio, which used to be lengthy. I have no cupboard or tasting notes, though. Never did.

And no, it was not performing better before being passed off. Often weeks would go by and I was not able to log on. I think that is why so many ‘old timers’ eventually left, because the site was practically useless. The hope probably was that by promising to ‘fix’ the old, broken down Steepster, folks would return in droves. The advent calendars from the holidays saw a lot of traffic on Steepster and maybe even attarcted some new folks but people only have so much time and patience. If the freezes/lack of support continue, this site will go back to being the ghost town that it was fast becoming.

Dustin said

That’s frustrating. I’m a little hesitant to even see if I can mess with my bio.
I have taken several breaks over the years, so maybe the site was the worst during one of those periods. I think it’s been a couple months that I’ve been active again. I was hopeful that it was picking back up again and have even seen some faces pop up that I hadn’t seen in years, but that won’t last at this rate. It there another site most have migrated to? It would be sad to leave all my tasting notes behind.

I understand if people aren’t available to fix Steepster issues on the weekends. However, this started late Thursday evening and there was no update. I agree with everyone that it would be nice to be notified that the tech team is aware of the problem.

I agree with you, Leafhopper. The management software I use for my practice has a vast subscriber base but if there is an issue/outage or glitch, users can go to a community portal where we can see what the problem is and a time frame for rectifying it. Online software and programming stuff happens but everyone feels calmer when they at least know that the ‘fixers’ are aware of an issue and are in the process of doing something.
