Help! Stinky valerian root!
I just moved and don’t have a far-away spot to store my stinky valerian root. How can I store it and hide that smell?? (Do I need a thermos? A fallout shelter?)
Mason jar? Glass might contain it better than a tin. (I love my jelly-size glass jars for tea cupboard storage.)
So stinky, isn’t it? I agree that a jar, especially a mason jar, would be perfect. Then, put that jar in a larger jar, then, bury that jar…just kidding! xo
A glass jar is fine. A glass canning jar would be best, as the rubberized lids can be screwed tightly with their rings. (You can glue the lid to the ring to make it easier to use.) In the absence of a canning jar I would use a screw-top jar with some folded plastic wrap underneath the cap to help seal it.
Valerian root is a wonderful calming herb; Valium was just a synthetic form of this and, as opposed to the natural plant, contained a lot of adverse effects.
I’ve always said that valerian tastes like you’re licking a tree branch. I’m discovering that tulsi has really nice relaxation properties, too. It’s a little sharp and lemony; I wonder if it’s enough so to overcome the valerian flavor. Together—wow, that’d be a double whammy, for sure.
Just got two blends with tulsi from Organic India: Chai and Ginger. I am enjoying them!
