Teavana recommendations? (Look what Santa brought me!)

- UtiliTEA variable temperature kettle
- $25 giftcard to Teavana

Soooo I need to do some spending! I know Teavana gets a bad rap around here, but Mum and I had no problems the one time we went in together to check things out.

Any recommendations?

Get something that you think sounds good that you couldn’t get anywhere else. Because most teas you can get somewhere else for cheaper and higher quality, so find something unique to Teavana.

There are a TON of teas on sale now online, up to 70& off. Many of them are between $1.50-$3.00 for 2oz, so you could probably try out a ton of different ones. Personally I like their chais and the almond rose blend the name of which is eluding me right now.

White Ayurvedic Chai is very nice and a good buy with the sale. I also like Peachberry Jasmine Sutra and Amandine Rose.

The peachberry is one of my favorites and its 75% off! I got 8oz of it for like 15 bucks!

I’m crazy about the peachberry. I thought the heavenly sale was also going on at the store…? I hope so, I’m planning on braving the snow that is supposed to hit tomorow afternoon to take advantage of it!

its happening right now online, check out the stuff on sale on their site if you don’t want to go out in the snow

Two of my favorite Teavana teas, Black Dragon Pearls and Gyokuro Imperial, are on sale right now for 75 percent off. I also picked up some of the Golden Monkey black tea, which seems to be getting good reviews, and some of my all-time favorite Teavana blend, Body + Mind. Body + Mind is not on sale right now, but since I stocked up with half-pounds of Gyokuro and BDP, I got an extra 10 percent discount on everything. Go for it and have fun — it’s a way to try Teavana teas without having to deal with a pushy salesperson.

They have some really great sales online right now! Excited to snag a few!

Actually I’m a little upset right now… After revisiting some of my favorites that I was assured were dairy free before, now have dairy (or more like, are now properly labeled). So disappointing…

Keep in mind that glaucus independent research group recently found that a good number of teavana’s teas contain banned pesticides, one of which is extremely harmful for women especially.

Babble said

Hm interesting point. This might explain why some of the teas they are not getting rid of are still discontinued.

Valerie said

I vaguely remember someone on Steepster ordering their own pesticide testing kit to see if it was comparable at all to the pesticides in other teas. I wonder what became of that?

I’m beginning to doubt what that “independent” short selling group had to say was actually of any merit. Sure it’s stupid to try to claim there are no pesticides when you’re dealing with such a large supply of tea, but considering there hasn’t been a peep of other information from Starbucks, who claimed immediately they were looking into it. Plus “monkey picked” oolong was one of the worst and it’s not on sale.

However, there are many celebrated teas, including gyokuro imperial, golden monkey, and many straight greens and oolongs, that have mysteriously disappeared from the online offerings. It looks to me that Teavana is scrambling to cover things up.

Or just trying to force people to put up with the store.

Shouldn’t we have heard something by now if a charge that serious were true? Considering what SBUX bought Teavana for, after all…

I think I’m going to spend the giftcard on teawear instead of teas instead. :) Just to play it safe. Maybe a new teacup or some rock sugar or something like that!

chadao said

That’s a very good idea. Stay away from the cast iron and yixing ware. I might recommend a PerfecTea maker or two, the German rock sugar is always nice (don’t let them fool you into buying the 3lb jar), and I like the old version of their double-walled glass tumbler.

Valerie said

Oh, that sounds great! It’s a $25 card so I can get both the perfectea maker and a bit of the rock sugar to try. Whether the rock sugar lasts long enough to make it into the tea is another story — apparently it’s pretty tasty to eat as candy oops. :D

When I worked at Teavana, I used to pop bits of the German rock sugar into my mouth all the time! It is very addicting stuff :)

I’ve been eyeing these for awhile:

A little more than I’d like to pay for it, but cute nonetheless… .

@Alex_Allen – what’s wrong with the 3lb jar?

fermataleaf: I bought one of those cups back when they were on sale. I like it a lot. Keep an eye out, because they do discount them ocassionnally. :)

Bubbles: Thanks I’ll keep that in mind.

@darby – I think he just means that you can get a smaller amount than the jar, but the employees will probably sell down from the jar.

I don’t think anything is wrong with the jar, per se. It’s a nice-looking jar. If I didn’t know I would break it, I would get it, but I have my sugar in a pound tin instead. I definitely go through that amount of sugar regularly myself.

Ugh, my giftcard doesn’t work on the website even though the back says it will. Did some googling and apparently Canadian giftcards can only be used in-store or over the phone. I’ll call tomorrow and place my order. Luckily nothing I want to order is on sale so even if it takes a few days, I should be okay!

Ferma, I’m buying the cup you posted! It’s so cute. As well as a second perfect teaspoon (for my tea stash at work) and 1lb of the rock sugar. :)

Babble said

My GC worked, but it’s American. I saw on Facebook people were having issues with GCs

Valerie said

Yeah, mine’s Canadian. I found this:

You’ll like that cup. I have the “puppy” version. It’s small, but cute. :)

Yay! I hope you like it :D
