what's the best for steeping loose leaf teas into a mug.

Chatsford has a mug infuser. Upton tea sells it for about $6. This infuser will contain even the tiniest leaf. Highly recommend.

Before I got my nifty teacup with infuser and lid I used one of the cheap tea strainers with a wooden handle from the English Tea Store. It worked out well, put in my tea and covered the cup with a saucer while it was steeping, then put the strainer in the saucer when it was done steeping. Only drawback was the really finely broken leaves like ETS double bergamot EG would get through the mesh and settle on the bottom of the cup.

I use my basket from the Kati Tea Brewing system with a variety of mugs. Only problem is when the mug is too big or too small and the basket falls in or won’t sit in it right! I like it because it allows the leaves to expand, but then I can pull it out and put it on the lid to wait for resteeps. T-Sacs work well, too!

When I just got started at work and was really desperate I would use a paper towel as a makeshift teabag. Not ideal, but will do in a pinch.

I actually just steep in one mug and then pour through a strainer into another. I’m sure there are more efficient ways but it works for me!

I like mugs that have built in infusers/strainers. For tea that has smaller pieces, like rooibos, you can purchase tea bags that you fill yourself. Another item I like is a small tea strainer. Brew you tea in a tea pot and then pour over the strainer that sits ontop of the mug, it will catch all of the tea leaves. If you are using a ball infuser, make sure it is large enough so that the leaves can fully expands, if the infuser is to small you will not get the full taste of the tea. I have several different types of infusers, strainers, and tea bags that I use for different types of tea.
