Breville One-touch Teamaker

I’ve been going through the motions of whether or not to purchase the Breville One touch teamaker. I love the idea of how easy it is to use but when I looked on Amazon I noticed more than a few complaints on the “plastic” taste that you can get from the processing. I’m also not crazy about the fact it’s not BPA free. Thoughts?

I purchased the Breville as a Christmas present for myself, mainly for the convienence of having the tea ready to go out the door with me in the morning. I think it makes great tea, have been using Earl Grey. As far as plastic goes, the carafe is glass and the steeping basket is metal. I have not noticed any off taste.

I’ve been using my breville for over a year and a half now, and I love it. I don’t know how I managed to live so long without it. It’s the most used appliance in my house except for the fridge and the freezer in the garage which are constantly running. LOVE it.

Thanks that helps a lot. I just got timid about it because of the people on Amazon saying that it had a “plastic” taste they couldn’t get rid of. That’s the bad part about the internet. You never know what to think!

ETA: I love mine and don’t get a plasticy taste from it.

I read it from a few people on Amazon.com. Like I said, the internet can be great or it can be horrible. Glad to hear you’re enjoying yours though. I’m headed to BB&B tomorrow to pick up mine!

The “plastic” taste some people are mentioning is probably due to tea flavors leeching into the lid / basket over time. My breville certainly has that problem, but there are several ways to remedy the problem. Make sure you quickly wash out the pot after every use and if the problem gets progressively worse, just give it a thorough cleaning. I place cream of tartar, lemon juice, and baking soda into the pot filling the water above the basket. I boil it several times before leaving it sitting over night. The next day, I’ll rinse it and give it a quick scrub to get rid of any pesky tea stains that might rain. And that’s it! It’s brand sparkling new again.
