Bringing tea as a carry on?
Thanks everyone! I am mostly worried about the smaller/open samples I want to bring my friend, but I’m sure if I pack them well there will be no problems.
Basically just echoing everyone else but I have flown with tea in my carryon and checked luggage all over the world and never had a problem. They usually don’t give it a second glance.
Never had a problem — and I usually carry it in fairly suspicious looking small bags.
I figure that if they’re concerned that it’s drugs, they’ll give it a sniffer test and it will pass just fine.
That said, I pack most tea in my checked bag.
I normally do too but I’m flying to washington to see a friend/do research and I didn’t want to check anything because I don’t trust air Canada/did not need to pay/did not want to have a huge bag for 5 days.
I don’t travel much, so I don’t really have this problem, but I always worry when I pick up a tea package from the post office, then go to my car and (because clearly I am too excited to go home!) tear open my package and sit in the parking lot and sniff questionable baggies in my car… Um, ma’am… we’re going to have to ask you to step outside of the car and drop the baggies…
Brought loose leaf tea back from France in unsealed paper bags last year with no problems. It was probably checked but I can’t remember. Customs at Dulles did not care one bit.
