Reddit Tea Exchange

All Reddit exchange are notoriously awesome and amazing, I’m sure this one would be too!

I was really considering it, but I’ve heard some horror stories of swappers not sending anything in return (though it does happen very rarely). Plus I think the amount you put towards it is pretty high—like $50? I was going to, but I realized that 1) there’s a possibility they could send me stuff I hate and 2) what if I get a person who likes coffee (which I know nothing about!). Steepster swaps are enough for me right now haha

The suggested minimum is $20 in case anyone can’t find it anywhere, I saw it mentioned on the tea subreddit. They have volunteers who step in to send things if you don’t get anything, though I think some people still get burned with that.

I do wish I knew if you said tea, if that means you’ll also get someone who only wants tea. Thankfully I know exactly what I’d get someone who likes coffee, but I’d far rather be buying someone tea.

I have no idea but a few things to keep in mind

- I seem to have trouble sending loose tea samples from Europe to the USA. One package once went astray (I sent a replacement but still..) and other packages seem to take a month to arrive. I think US customs is not too fond of packages with little plastic bags of vegetable matter. If it´s an international swap and seems like it, that is a risk you should be aware.

- $50 dollars is a lot to spend to get a swap from somebody who does not know your tastes really well and knows tea well! It might be a very generous package but louzy tea or tea just not to your taste.

seems like you can also do small swaps @the subreddit. just signed up for the forum but not yet the exchange.

Looks like there is a spot for comments like “I prefer tea” or “not a fan of x ingredient” so that’s cool.

I have had good luck with multiple reddit exchanges. There was one where my gifter just fell off the face of the planet. There are a bunch of other redditors who sign up for “rematches” to try to make sure everyone gets something. My rematcher was incredibly generous in the cookbook swap.

But if any of my fellow steepsterites do this and have a bad experience, I want to hear about it. I for one, would totally hook you up with a teacentric package. :)

I’m still on the fence about this one. If it were possible to be guaranteed a U.S. exchange partner I’d be more willing.
