Gardening for Herbal Tisanes

I was wondering if anyone grows herbs and/or flowers to harvest them for teas. Last summer I tried it with lavender (from the garden), but since the weather was unusually dry I only got half a tea spoon’s worth. This coming summer, I want to try again, this time also growing mint, and maybe basil and thyme.

I grow mint and many other herbs in the summer. I use them for tea as well as cooking. I’ve used some flowers and roses to make tea. You have to be careful and know what you are using, as some flowers are poisonous, and some can be quite bitter.

You can easily dry out herbs and flowers outdoors in the summer. Or use them fresh (you just need to steep more of it).

I’ll most definitely be careful. Thank you for the advice!

I’ve heard that chocolate mint is good for tea. I was partial to my pineapple sage, though… it grew about 3ft tall, had gorgeous red flowers, and tasted great!

I love pineapple sage, it’s really interesting in cooking and of course tea.

Some of the herbs/flowers I use are: spearmint, peppermint, corsican mint, cotton candy mint, lemon basil, sage, chammomile, calendula, dianthus, tulips, roses, echinacea, lavender, female flowers from cucumbers, pumpkins, squash.

I grow a lot of herbs: various basils, parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme (sorry, I couldn’t resist), lavender (you have to plant a lot of it to really get enough to use), various mints, lemon balm, stevia, etc.
My most favorite is Lemon Verbena, which I love.
