"The American Heiress" Book and Tea Club
My library has the book. And I have some Earl Greyer to trade.
Uptown Downstairs Abbey is another funny spoof.
Maybe the best way to figure out how much tea we should buy is to see who’s in!
So far I see:
-Josie Jade
-Alphakitty – Lady Londonderry
-Terri Harplady -London Tearoom tea
-threewhales – Tea Palace Tea
-lariel
-Cavocorax – Murchie’s 1894 Blend
-Sandy’sCuppa – Buckingham Palace Garden Party Tea
-Darby
-gmathis
-CK – Earl Grey
-Rambling.Reader
-yssah – Honeybush Earl Grey
-TeaLover58 -Caramel Sundays Escape
-Em – reading the book; opted out of exchange
-Serenity – same as Em
Anyone else? Please sign up here and I’ll update this post! (Or I can remove you if you just commented but didn’t want to do the book)
UPDATE: Ok I’m not the best at organizing things, but IF you are willing to send out tea, please confirm below and I’ll bold your name. This might make it easier to split things up into groups as sending samples out isn’t compulsary but we want to make sure we split groups up so that everyone gets a little something. :)Does that make sense? We can always change this.
Thanks Cavocorax, this is a great way to get organized and then we can divide everyone up. I am so excited about this!
I’m in, for a small amount. (Now I’m wanting to make Earl Grey cookies.)
I have plenty of the Buckingham palace garden party tea. Having never ordered tea before I didn’t realize what a pound looked like! I’ll never get through all of this! Lol!
I am so in on this:) I have several teas on hand from the Tea Palace in London. All black, as that is my preference. I will be glad to help organize if you need me.
I’ll probably pick up something from the London Tearoom, either Jubilee, which is an earl grey, OR maybe The Churchill, which I’ve been thinking of trying. It’s a smokey earl grey. OR maybe Duke & Duchess….OR The Fifth of November….
This is getting fun already! If you’d like a sample of a caffeine free Lemon Ginger infusion from Darvilles of Windsor, PM me. I won’t be indulging in all the wonderful teas you have to share, since I have to limit my caffeine to only about one or two cups of real tea per day, but I am so looking forward to reading your descriptions of all these various teas! If I’m doing any early morning reading, I will be most likely sipping the assam blend I mentioned on the previous page, and I am very happy to share that as well, again, just PM me. Thanks! : )
Ok – I think I’ve updated it correctly, but if you see something off, let me know.
How long should we wait to allow people to sign up? Who wants to split people up into groups?
I plan to read the book, but I’m going to pass on the exchange. I have so many teas already in my cabinet that I haven’t yet tasted :) I look forward to read all your tasting notes and discussing the book.
@Cav: i think it’s that Em doesnt need/want any samples coz she has too much already :D
@Serenity: aw, for you i will offer the group a Honeybush Earl Grey <3 i will be placing an order in the coming days so it should be sent out before everyone is done with the book. when is the deadline btw?
yay, lotsa tea! ive always wanted to try the ones you guys are sharing. following y’all!
(had to start a new reply coz it wasnt showing up right on an edit)
@Terri: maybe you can list the teas you are up to sharing (oh, you already did) and we can pick which one (if you have a super hard time deciding ^^)
wasnt going to join as spirit is willing but the flesh is weak (meaning: im lagging behind in my list of books to read) but the tea exchange is so tempting.
so i looked at the book review on amazon and that sealed the deal.
kinda wanna watch dta now too but restraining myself haha
I have a big list of unfinished books too! Reading one right now, so going to try and finish it before the new one gets in…guess I should get off of here and start reading!
Some history from the author’s website:
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I really don’t know a lot of history, so this helps set the background for me. Can’t wait to start.
Yeah, thanks for sharing that site, Serenity! Great stuff to draw me in! I especially love the bit on the tattoos :D
That is really interesting. Thanks for sharing it with us! Now we have to read it too!
And we all have to get tattoos to show our alliance at the Steepster tea and book club. Tea cups and books linked around our arms…or….
I’m in! Can’t wait to start with the new book!
Great! I added you to the list. (I hope I read it right that you were offering to share a sample too). You can pick whatever you think would fit the book. I’m doing a black tea blend – not an Earl Grey.
Okay. Being new to tea, not sure what would fit. Could you look into my cupboard and let me know if there is something worth trading? I would love to participate in trading if I have anything good.
Still not sure what my trade will be, but it will be a black tea, that I can tell you!
I think I’ve picked my tea to share! Caramel Sundae Escape, a black tea by Talbott Teas…best thing I had in my cupboard.
Ok, gang…I have thinking how best to get our teas out to everyone. I know we talked about dividing into tea types, it looks like we only have two types:black and herbal.
Option 1 mail a sample to everyone on the list…terri and josie sent me a sample during AK, it cost $1.95. We have 14 readers=$28.00 (this could be cheaper if we stayed within our two types)
Option 2 everyone mails their tea to me making sure to include enough tea for 14 people and I start a traveling readers/sipper box. When you get the box, you take out your sample from each tea and move the box along to the next person lickety split! I don’t think we have time to turn this around.
Option 3 secret tea exchange. I would assign you a person to send one sample, you would not know who was sending to you until you received it in the mail. With option 3, you could send more than one sample and you could even check out their shopping list!
Option 4 we break into small groups 5/5/4 (thanks alphakitty!) and just exchange within our small group.
Let me know what option you like the best. I have started following everyone. If you follow me back, we can PM each other:)
I like option 3 the best—I think we don’t have quite enough time for a TTB and I know I personally don’t have enough of my tea for 14 good sized samples. So I vote for either a secret exchange or small groups (maybe of 5/5/4?) to swap within.
One more option is a variation of opt #1: to divide it down to tea types, each person choosing their type, & all the people within a type send each other teas. Just a suggestion.
Otherwise, I favor option #1
I’m fine with whatever, but option 3 may be the most feasible for all involved. I like the idea too of having smaller groups like Alphakitty said. I’m not sure what everyone’s tea preferences are, it seemed like a lot of people like black tea so that may be a really large group if we divide by tea type.
I like option 3 the best. I know I don’t have enough tea for 14 people and the “secret tea santa” sounds kind of fun.
I vote for option 4, as I’m sure I have enough tea to send to 4-5 people but not enough for 14 I think.
I’ve got enough Earl Greyer to send to four or five people, but not more.
im want to get black tea too hahaha, maybe we’ll have 3 groups of 5 each and then just put me and Serenity in one group. we can still share our teas with the rest :)
Having had time to contemplate this, I realize not everyone can afford to do option #1, although I loved the idea of it, so maybe option #4 is our best bet. I still suggest we try to make those groups based on preferences of black/puer, oolong/green/white, & no caffeine, or at least put me (and here, I’m being selfish & self centered) in a group with people who drink black tea, LOL.
@ yssah: thank you for thinking of me, you are so sweet! I’ve got soooo many herbal, decaf blends so I really am not up for a swap, but as I wrote in an earlier post, I’m more than happy to send out a sample of what I’m sipping!
@ threewhales: thanks for organizing the sharing; I’ll be so interested in reading what everyone is trying, but I don’t need to have any samples sent my way. : )
I am beginning to panic as I realize that Steepster is quickly turning into an equivalent of a full-time job for me! I took one weekend off and can’t catch up!
I got the book but I was not really able to give any serious thought to the tea. I have only been ordering very small quantities/samplers so far just to determine what I like, so I don’t have enough of anything to participate in the exchange right now. But if you are OK with receiving your samples at the end of February, count me in for Option #3 or the black tea club. Otherwise I’ll wait this one out and be better prepared next time!
TeaRunner, that’s fine, no worries! You can see my post above: I’m not participating in a tea exchange. The most important thing is to have fun, to read the book and chat about it, and to talk, too, about what tea(s) you enjoyed along with reading. Cheers!
TeaRunner, I’ve given up on ever getting caught up! There are teas I’ve drank, but haven’t logged. There are people I follow who’s posts I haven’t read. There is Steepster, then there is real life. I love this place, but I can’t just hang out here all the time. When I check in, I read the most recent stuff & then I let go, just like FB. Once in awhile I pick a tea & read everything everybody has said about it, or I pick a person & read all their recent posts. It’s the best I can do, & since nobody’s judging (except me…), it’s good enough!
@TeaRunner: I say yes! The fun part of the swaps is the novelty of maybe trying something new, and seeing what other people picked. Hang in there, I think we all have tons of tea anyway. I’m still sending samples of St. Valentines out, & we finished the book already! So really, you’ve got until mid march or beyond!
We are going to go with small groups with a tea preference. Please PM me with your name and mailing address AND your tea preference.
This is going to be fun:)
